Ingest of P2 into FCP7 and FCPX

I admit right up front to being a luddite on this.

For my P2 workflow, I am still ingesting with P2CMS and then doing a log and transfer to FCP7. The main reason for this is it has always worked for me. I have never lost a frame of footage doing this. Ever.

I am anticipating a major upgrade clean install to my MacPro in the very near future and will probably upgrade to FCPX, but will have to stick with Mountain Lion for a while due to unrelated software conflicts with Mavericks. I was wondering what people are using for P2 - DVCProHD ingest to FCPX? Does FCPX do this without fail?

I need a solution for AVCCAM as well if you have one.

Thanks for your thoughts

Two ways for P2 and FCPX.

1. Write protect the p2 card and mount the card with your camera or p2 reader. I use Panasonic USB2 reader. Open FCP X, establish the event folder in the volume you want, and then elect to import media. You'll get a screen that shows the p2 card, its contents with each of the files. Import as needed and elect how you want to import.

2. Copy the p2 card to your media drive, and import from there.

AVCAM works similarly. I import 1080/60p AVCHD footage from a Panasonic 920M directly into FCP X, but I elect to optimize the footage upon import.

Hey David, hadn't heard from you in a while.

Do you feel the direct import into FCPX is as reliable as P2CMS. Have you had any issues?

MXF converter to Pro Res

MXF converter to Pro Res

I have not been able to import P-2 footage into FCP-X that I dragged over, ( like I could in FCP-7)
DO NOT buy Aiseesoft MXF converter for Mac. It doesn't work. Their technical support is no-existant.

The files it creates are at the wrong speed, it leaves off 2 audio tracks and is full or artifacts.
TOTALLY USELESS.
They have people all over doing fake forum testimonials to get you to waste your money on their hacked out crap but they will not respond to your customer support requests when it doesn't work.
AISEESOFT is a RIPOFF.
