Hey dudes.
Yesterday was a particular beautiful day and a friend of mine called me up and asked if I wanted to go for a ride
outside in the nice weather. I came to think of that I hadn't gotten the chance to test out my new Cavision rig(hand grips and shoulder pad) properly,
so I grabbed the rig and ran out for som run and gunning down by the water.
And I must say I'm really happy I went over to the cavision setup, it's very sturdy (The spiderbrace was too weak).

Ah jeg elsker høsten i Norge:)

Nice editing and the colors are just amazingly beautiful.. hehe
Love it, love it..
good choice of music as well..

smettli, cool footage!

Any chance of posting a photo of your rig with the Cavision hand grips and shoulder pad setup? I have a set of these Cavision products, however, I can not see how the shoulder pad can be attached to an HVX rig with an SGPro Rev3. Nor can I see how I can configure the shoulder pad for the right shoulder to act as support. Any feedback and photos of the shoulder pad attached would be appreciated. Thanks.

Second on that. Will look for one myself around winter.

And that's nice slowmo footage. Did you record some progressive 25p and some 50i or just 50i? Just asking to know what's the easiest solution.

Regards,
David

gorgeous. i always download and then keep your stuff. what lenses did you shoot with?

Hey dudes. Thanks again for your comments :)

The song in the clip is " Ballad of Big Nothing" by Elliott Smith from the Either Or album.
Tommetass: Oh, yes. I wish the whole winter was like this, that would be sweet. Snow isn't that fun anymore, just makes it harder to shoot.
D_odell: I switch between shooting progressive and 50i, dont wanna miss any quality when using "normal speed" :) That is the easiest way for me, Since I always decide upfront which shots I want to have in slomo, and which shots I want to be at normal speed. Just like you would have to plan when shooting with a hvx or a film camera. And one always make a quick decission in style before hitting the rec button and that of course concers the chosen style for slomo footage. Movement, enviroment(like flicekring lights) and other stuff changes when in slomo, so good to keep it in mind upfront. I'm starting to blabble now... :)

Christopher: i have some pictures here, sorry about the bad quality but my canon EOS is in for repair so I had to use a crappy compact still camera. I have the sgpro rev.2, but I can't see why one shouldn't be able to use the cavision shoulder pad with the Rev.3 since you can attach the shoulder pad to the front of the rails(which you can see I have done in the pictures), though I have never seen a HVX mounted on a sgpro rev.3.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean with configuring the shoulder pad for the right shoulder to act as support?

Here are the picture of my rig:

Glad to hear that! All the car shots and the last shot in the clip was filmed with my 28mm f.2.8 smc pentax-k lens, Everything else was shot with my 55m f.1.2. Porst Pentax-k lens.
Cheers.

Great gear...
That Cavision is something for me too! It's good that you can keep the tripod plate on and have the shoulder support still on.

Thanks for the pics.

Exactly! That is very handy when on set, I'm so psyched about shooting my upcoming job with this thing :) But now I need a good tripod to hold it....

Great stuff as usual. The angles on the side of the car were pretty steady. Is the shoulder part comfortable enough to use for a long period of time? Is that plastic?

That it is made of plastic doesn't bother me at all, it's my arms that wear me out first. The shoulder pad works good for shooting out of the window, just the put the overarm under the shoulder pad and hold the dvx handle with your other hand and while resting the hand grip on the edge, it gets pretty steady.
If you want to make the shoulder pad more comfy, you can always duck tape some padded foam to it, piece of cake :)

I work at Cavision and we do have a mono pole support system that can take that weight off your arms. - http://www.cavision.com/rods/monopole.htm - Its a pretty basic design with the mono pole connecting into the bottom of the belt which is included. From what I can see from the pictures you posted I think we could mount the pole to the bottom part of the dual handgrips, there should be a threaded hole there.

Smettli, thanks for all the cool photos. I see my error, I have to flip sides for one of the silver teeth plates that stop slippage. You're a big help, thanks.

May I ask why all the tape down the column of the SGPro, back to the DVX? I understand locking off focus with gaffer, however, the rest of the column? What side would you put a follow focus on (for your left or right hand) to action the focus wheel, considering balance and weight distribution and the monitor on your left side? Cool rig man!

Jconnor: 40 USD is a very friendly price, I thought it would be a lot more :) I will definately send you a mail when I get some cash on my account, totally broke at the moment.

Christopher: Glad you found a way to get it to work, I had to change around a bit on shoulder mount as well to get it right. What you see in the picture with the gaffer tape is a classic example of me being a nevrotic paranoid, I have to be sure it wont move! It also make people wonder what the hell I've done with my camera, which is kinda fun. I remember a proffesional steadicam operator once said(cant remember the name): "After you have bought a new steadicam rig, the first thing you do is to bring the rig down to the basement and throw it around so when you show up on set the director wont think you're a newbie with your shiny new rig." Unfortunately my dvx rig doesn't look like it's used by proffesionals, it just looks like it's been dropped to the ground by a moron and taped back together :)
When I get a follow focus, I will operate it with my left hand, like I operate the focus ring on my lens now. I stabilize it by bending the left handgrip backwards so it can rest on my left underarm while my hand is on the focus ring or follow focus.

Funny thing, while I wrote this, my music video popped up on a TV music program which I have running in the background. My debut on national TV, yey...
