Infrared videography with GH1/2

Maybe this info is useful for some of you.

After asking about infrared in here, Peter J. DeCrescenzo posted a link to the site of Hutech. This company sells modified Fuji, Canon and Panasonic cameras with the IR filter replaced by a clear filter so that these camera's are suitable for infrared and astra videography. You can also send your camera to them for modification.

They do offer a modified GH1, with an optional external IR filter so that it still can be used for normal videography. I'm very tempted to order one but I just sent them an e-mail to ask if they will offer modified GH2s when they become available.

Interesting. Although the GH2 bulb mode is 2 mins max, so not much use to astronomers getting this camera done. I wonder how well there filters work at blocking ir on a stock camera?

I will use this for capturing wildlife on video at night, something I now do with a Sony handycam, I would love to do this with the GH2 and my Nikor 80-400mm and external powerful IR lights. Honestly I know nothing about astro photography, I guess you have a point with the 2 min max bulb mode not being suitable for this.

The external IR filters are expensive, so it's probably not worth it using a modified camera for normal light videography. I will probably just get one camera for IR work only and another camera (or two) for the "normal" work.
