Inexpensive Stock Music Wanted....

Hi,

Id like to buy some stock music to use for promo films etc as background music.

I saw a few on ebay. But those guys say they only provide downloads. Especially an ebay seller called Muse.RoyalityFreeMusic. He advertises as physical dvds will also be shipped at shipping cost extra. But when you ask for it he will say "to your country i dont ship,,,but you can buy and download it if you want". Then when i asked him if he will at least give me an invoice or written authorization that this is a legal copy. He claims the paypal transaction is proof enough. And he says you can download the rights, which is just an ordinary word document with no endorsement.

Can we trust this ? Or is there any other better source where i can buy something like this. The only advantage is that hes giving about 500 tracks for $99. But then who wants just downloads. He never answered if we can get official printed (as royality free) dvds. Anyone can give you a download of anyones music ! He doesnt have official looking DVDs either. How do i protect myself and avoid being questioned by someone about the music i bought ?

If members here can suggest anything i can buy with similar cost , please suggest the same ?

Thanks

There are many legitimate sources out there selling royalty-free music by download. It's pretty simple, really: create a new folder on your hard drive for music from the specific seller, and in it store the music, the receipt(s), and the downloaded license agreement. Just read reviews before buying, especially if you have any doubts or concerns.

And once you've purchased a few files for download, be sure to back them up on DVD-R or CD-R, or a second hard drive.

Do a search of the audio forum, as there have been several threads about good sources for inexpensive, or even free, stock music.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your reply. I understand that id have to download it and keep them orgainzed in a folder. A receipt is also just for a transaction right, how does it ensure that it applies to the particular tracks you bought. Also the licence that they ask you to download is mostly just a MS Word Document. Anyone can type that. Modify it and it can even state that the rights to the statue of liberty henceforth rest with us.

It should at least be signed or the transaction should be traceable to a brick and mortar studio or address. Im just trying to understand how we can be safe, when we are paying for something theres nothing wrong in wanting assurance that we are legally buying it. If not, people would just download someones music, use it and be done with it right ?

Thanks

Lots of software comes with downloaded license agreements that are simple text files.

Yeah, anyone can type or modify a Word document, but the reality is that they have a copy and you have a copy. Further, most of those license agreements state that you agree to their terms by the act of purchasing, downloading, and using their music. As for how it applies to individual tracks, well... they know their music, so it's only going to become an issue if someone calls it out. And if that happens (not likely), you have sales receipts that should detail tracks purchased. The license is assumed when you buy. The Word document is for your reference/records.

Where trouble really comes in is where music is used by some one who has not purchased the music.

Visted the freshmusic.com website. 3 tracks for $99. Chief i was about to explode when i saw that. Ok now what part of inexpensive did you not understand. lol.

Im looking for the 3000 tracks for $99 category. Doesnt have to sound like hollywood.

Hey thanks to Alex, i actually think the Creative Commons Licence thing is good. You use their music (even in a commercial production) and give them due credit. Period. Are there any strings attached that im missing or is it really that straightforward as its mentioned ?

Thanks

Hi,

I found some good CC license music which is 'good enough' for my usage. Can i just use them and credit the creator ?

Thanks
