Industry Standard? Why Mac?

That is a statement that makes no sense. And i hear it stated CONSTANTLY from lots of people. Dudes, they are computers.... thats like sayting, "snap On" tools are for creative people, and Crafts men is for business.... Same crap......

I love anaolgy....considering Snap On tools are waaaay overpriced....kinda like...ummm let's say APPLE

yea most pro editors dont even know what "vega" is. i correct them "Vegas".... They say huh?

I think most creative people feel more at ease with a mac.

I think that everyone on this board would consider themselves a creative person, and from what I am seeing so far it looks like a pretty even split between mac and pc.

Besides, creatativity comes not from the tools that you are give, but how you use those tools.

Why another one of these posts? Who cares. These are just machines, tools we use to be creative. Use whatever tools work best for you... but YOU are the creative asset, not the machine. Photograph, paint brush, camera, computer, whatever it is, use what works best for you... and don't nag others that don't use your same tools. Everyone is different.

I recently started using FCP for my new job, and i was looking for that "WOWAWEEWA" but never found it. instead i found a solid, reliable, efficient editing program. No complaints. I just dont find ANY computer platform worth religous like devotion.

When i was in Istanbul last year, i met a curator, who was looking at my artwork, who said, "i dont have respect for anyone who works on a PC." I just looked at him blankly and said, "Its a computer".

He didint come to my show....... :(

I think macs are expensive for what they are and having never been a mac user (apart from working situations) there was some initial (damn why do I have to spend that for those specs) pain for me when I switched over from pc last year. The only reason I made the switch was entirley based around FCP. I dont consider myself an editor and I dont think I ever will so my decision was based totally around one point - I found FCPS workflow much easier (remembering I dont consider myself an editor and lets face it we must edit). Having made the change, in less than a year Id would (conservatively) estimate that I am at least 50% more efficient when it comes to editing now, thats a BIG factor for me and makes the increase $ I spent on the mac entirely a moot point. Personally I think (for people who dont want to make editing a career) thats the only point to consider, whats best for you?

If a guy came up to me right now and asked what system should I get? I wouldnt recommend mac or pc, I would just tell them to (if possible) try at least PPRO, Vegas (I used the vegas demo every day when I had the demo) and FCP and see what they are most comfortable on.

If I tried to pinpoint why I thought FCP works better for me
1/ It just does (for me)
2/ The integration between all FCS apps pluse shake if you have it, is so easy to follow.
3/ The ease of using PS in addition is also good, DVD studio pro accepts layers for example.
4/ Some of the smaller apps in FCS made my life much easier. Compressor, cinema tools and apple q master (great and easy to use for multiple machine rendering if you have two macs).

^^^ Exactly. As I said, there will be a small portion fo us that just switch for Final Cut Pro and no other reason. It's just that easy.

Craftsman = replace them forever when they break. Snap-On = replace them forever when they break.

But Snap-On delivers. Craftsman, ya gotta go to Sears.

:^)

Yeah there is always that little bit of excitment when you see the snap on truck in the parking lot.....its kinda like taking a trip to B&H....ok...maybe not that much excitment

here's another's answer to the question:

here's another's answer to the question:

This guys a film editor and he owns a sound and DVD company: been in the business 25+ years.

Easy... You tell them that almost every professional in the industry uses Mac.... for many reasons.

I know both Mac's and PC's very well... and I have owned IBM's Gateways, Dells, Zeos, Alienware, and some I built on the PC end. *They all could not hold a candle to my Macs in any area. *ON the mac end I have owned a 9800 (I think that was it's umber) , a G3, a G4, a G5, an iMac and an eMac. *
*
With issues that the movie industry has to deal with, or with ideas they need to create... the Apple platform allows for a higher grade of applications and experimentation with multi media on every front. *If your a game designer you may want to go another way... but there is a reason that the best multi media software in the world all runs on an apple. *Besides, now you can run both OSX and windows on a mac with ease... and there are Mac versions of most all important windows based programs like Microsoft Office etc.
*
Enough out of me... I obviously love Mac.

... any comment?

when I was at nfl films they used avid media composers that ran on macs for basic editing, and avid ds that ran on windows for the online and finishing editing.

It all comes down to the apps. If final cut studio was made with a windows version, would there even be a debate anymore?

99% of thoes are myths.

EVERY computer is prone to crashing. EVERY SINGLE ONE. The Virus advantage is applicable, but there are MAc viruses springing up now.

"Apple users are far more helpful,
Apple computers are a more serious computer whereas the PC is more of a gamers computer. * "

This just makes me laugh.

Right so 90% of the people that own computers are gamers and very not serious.

Dude i quoted that from above. StudioScouts post. I think a pc that can play games is just whatever. i dont play computer games. Except "Half life"

No viruses
Viruses are a product of operator error. Come on. FIREWALL man. Lame reason.

Easy learning curve

Uhm. No. I can tell you right now the lack of an integrated right click mouse button pisses off more than a few adopters. Oh look... I'm using a Microsoft mouse. There's nothing hard about learning Windows or OS X. It's the same crap in a different wrapper. USER FRIENDLY.

Ease of use

Uhm. Please, expand upon such a vague reason. Lame.

Looks Better

It's true, most "creative" minds are Prima-Donna's. Go figure.

Slicker designs
Are we being redundant?

plug and play almost anything
Sorry, incorrect. Plug and Play an iPod and SOME externals. It's a shame and a sham that most peripherals are formatted for PC usage.

they can talk to other's in the industry who use them with ease

Yeah, it's good to be on the same platform that other creative minds are using. Can't deny this one.

better support
But I CAN deny this one. LOAD OF BS> Better support? WTF is this guy talking about? Please, plug an 8800GTS video card into your brand new Quad or Octo Core Mac and tell me if it works. No? Kay thanks. Mac's have horrible support. From their creators and third party devs. Nuff.

better interfaces,
Don't be stupid. The OS X interface has SPOTLIGHT and that's about it. Operates on the same thing XP does, drag and drop menus. I can tell you I don't like having to search for files to trash just to install a program though. Do you?

higher quality

You're being stupid again. Please name one of the items in your Mac that's higher quality than it's PC counterpart. Please see: Apple's Intel switch. COUGH

less breakdown times
Operator errors. Period.

less errors
Apparently being a Mac owner makes you redundant as hell.

less problems with individual programs
This guy must not use many programs. Sorry, but there's no way this is at all accurate. Please name a program that has problems running on a PC that runs better on a Mac? Can't name one? That's becaus there aren't any.

less figuring out
What the hell kinda answer is this?

less altering and setting up time
Setup time for WHAT?!?!?!

less confusion with independant software providers individual terminology
This is plain stupid. I'm getting tired of responding to these.

less hunting for answers
Oh really? Right. So seeing as how most of the world sits on a Windows platform machine, you're telling me it's easier to google your Mac OS X problem than your windows problem? Sigh. I want to get off of my G5 now.

less backtracking on what hardware is conflicting with what software
Yeah you're right. Reinstalling my ENTIRE FINAL CUT SUITE because Compressor won't work is always awesome....

Apple has a better support network

Sure they do. Actually, no they don't. That's why you're forced to pay for Apple Care if you want ANY help on ANY THING. When it's out, you're screwed.

Apple users are far more helpful
Yeah, trust me... I won't be asking you for any help pal.

Apple systems are more secure
Yeah, sure they are. Linux based OS. The system ain't secure though. It's a machine. Don't be stupid. err too late.

Apple computers are a more serious computer whereas the PC is more of a gamers computer.
I can't believe I didn't see this before I saw the rest. I would've discounted this entire opinion as retarded fanboyism. But since I'm already here, let's see what programs are flourishing on PC platforml

MAYA
CINEMA 4D
3D STUDIO MAX
LIGHTWAVE
SOFTIMAGE XSI
AVID SUITES
ADOBE SUITES (name any Adobe program fella)

Not to mention that about (guesstimate) ninety percent of all software supports WINDOWS platforms WAY before they support Mac. Wtf is up with you?

Come on man... It's okay to say "because I love my Mac, that's why!" But don't be stupid.

I CAN GO ON FOREVER!

In short... you should've stopped before you began...
