indislider knockoffs

Hey i was wondering if there were any cheaper alternatives to the indiSlider. I really like how its a very small dolly that you can carry around but i don't have $400 to spend on it. Are there any knockoffs to it or anything similar to it for a little bit cheaper? Thanks.

Sorry if this is the wrong section btw.

I was under the impression that the IndiSlider was already a "knockoff" of the more expensive sliders used on big budget shoots.

I just built one...it works great and cost about $168.00 total. It's from a liner motion company. Track & carriage and runs silent!

Let me know if you're interested and I can give you more info!

Here's a quick little test the day I put it together...it's really not jerky (photobucket?). I wanted it for one of my Twilightfest shoot....and it worked like a charm. http://s302.photobucket.com/albums/nn91/zazacast/?action=view&current=Slider5.flv

I just bought carriage and rail material from www.igus.com - $200 for 36" -

Zaza, where did you get your materials?

cheno

That's the place! I got 1000mm rail (about 39")...tapped the center hole & it screws right on the tripod. Next I'm making a couple 'endcaps' that will allow for really low slides.

Here's the order:
WS-16-60 Drylin W rail 1000mm
WW-16-60-10 Drylin W carriage

That looks very nice. I may have to do that.

Zaza - I think I got the 20mm instead of the 16mm so that's probably the extra cost - man I could have saved $30 ;)

Yeah....I was guessing when I was looking at all the specs. The 16mm holds like 800lbs, so I thought I'd be safe.

....now, think about using 2 tracks about 20' long, 4 carriages....build a big platform...throw a handle on it, set-up your tripod and a nice seat...damn...that would make a great slient dolly (and it would hold about 7200 lbs!) BooYa!

please post some close ups!! I need one of these. Nice smooth footage by the way.

I went to the website. I am ordering on Tuesday!

I started a new thread in the DIY section...go there for complete instruction.

I expect to see a lot of sliding shot in the near future.

**Note - I found that if you just tilt yout tripod slighly, you can set-up your shot, slide the camera to the high side & just let it go for a great smooth shot!
The steeper the angle, the faster the slide.

Be sure to catch the camera at the end though! :)
