The guy im going to buy it from says that he bought the camera a year ago and that it has over 300 hours on drum. Im buying it at a pretty decent price, but is it ok to buy the camera that already has 300hours on it? These are professional cameras and im guessing these cameras can handle that many hours with ease. But i just wanna make sure. It's a panasonic dvx100A by the way.

What is the maximum head drum operation hours?

Thanks.

That is not total drum hours because I just bought a new one in August and it has 8 hours on it and I have only made 3 tapes and the longest was 40 minutes on that one and I do not use it to capture with.

Best,

If the tape and the battery are in the DVX, that adds to the recording hours, so inflation of hours on a camera happens frequently I suspect.

I think that's only if it's turned on. I'm pretty sure I've left tape and battery in it for several days with the power off, and the hours haven't increased.

It makes sense for the clock to be ticking even when you're not recording, since the heads are spinning in any case. Actually having the tape moving makes a negligible difference in head-to-tape speed.
