it's cool walt... your logo is long though, too long for this clip that you made... haha but it's all good.

Thanks. Yeah, it is the standard logo I throw on by default onto the begining of all the clips I put on my site. I should probably comeup with a shorter version that would better suit short clips like this.

Thanks for your input.

Nicely done overall. I think your cuts are too quick though. As a possible customer, I'd like to be able to examine some of the closeups of the indifocus equipment. Doesn't have to linger there, but those cuts are just too quick.

While I've got your attention, how silent is the motion of the unit? One big concern for me is sound getting picked up in a boom or on board mic as I'm racking.

Keep us up to date on the progress. I'm interested in one of these puppies.

looks really sweet. Im geting one with a gear im looking forward to it . Best deal on a follow focus...... everyone should have this one!

Thanks for the input, I probably should extend some of those CU's.

The unit itself is almost dead silent. I would be VERY surprised if you were able to pick up any noise using the onboard mic, and you definately would not pickup any noise on a mic that was on a boom. The only noise that was present, came when using the hard stops. The pole is metal, and the hard stops are metal, so there is a little click when they contact. The on board mic will pick that up, and depending on the location, and how close the boom mic is, there is a possibility that it might pick up the sound as well.

This is easiely over come though, all you do is add some padding to the pole. an easy solution is to use the extra padding that comes with the Chamois. ( http://store.yahoo.com/cinemasupplies/eychamsmal.html ). When I ordered the Chamois, it came with two small, thin strips of padding that I honestly have no clue what they're for, so it has just been sitting around. They are sticky on one side, so you can apply them to the pole, and the sound is gone.

Will do.

Yeah, it will come in REAL handy for use with the DOF adapter like yours. The unit that Tim is putting together for use with the 35mm SLR lenses should be great as well.

Ryan - thanks for putting this video together! Breakpoint Media / Overland Films is using indiFOCUS on the new season of Wild Wheels for Rainbow - Cablevision (the folks who bring you Fuse TV).

Like WaltInd. and others on this board, we worked closely with Tim Ovel to develop indiFOCUS - refining the system through no less than four progressive beta stages. The result is a robust, proven system that has been designed primarily for smooth barrel and geared barrel lenses alike.

GEARLESS REPEATABILITY

On the DVX100, the indiFOCUS adds a good deal of resistance to the too-loose factory focus ring. The dense foam rubber wheel compresses snuggly against the ring, finally allowing smooth, overfocus-free operation.

Calibrating the two indiFOCUS "end/hard-stops" is easy - simply bring your lens to 99 and set the first stop clamp on the marker disk, then pull out to the widest focal length and set the second. With the two extremes now locked, it is much easier to repeat stops throughout the focal range.

In our evaluation, it is best to uncompress the compression wheel from the lens train when not in use for long periods of time as the foam has some temporary memory in cold operating conditions.

IRIS ROD MOUNTING BRACKETS AND RISERS

indiFOCUS mounts solidly to industry standard 15mm / 60mm O.C. iris rods. The powder-coated split-stock rods bracket and integrated riser bracket are well-machined with beveled edges and chamfers to protect rods from scratches and delamination.

LARGE MARKER DISK, FLEX-SHAFT EXTENTIONS

indiFOCUS features a large marking disk for use with China markers or other erasable pens. Extension knobs are in the works - we expect to receive beta units this week.

DOF CONVERTER ADAPTABILITY

Using longer iris rods, it is possible to integrate indiFOCUS with DOF converters and aftermarket lenses of many kinds. The rubberised compression wheel does not work well against undulating focus rings like those commonly found on manual-focus SLR lenses.

A geared film-pitch adapter is under development for cinema and broadcast lenses - we'll secure one for testing as soon as it is ready.

Mr. Ovel (and Overland Films) has these units in stock - there is no wait lists, deposits or nonsense.

In February, Overland Films will offer fully integrated iris rod, mattebox and gearless or geared follow-focus systems for the Z1U, DVX100(a/b) and the HVX200.

Logo too long.

Video good.

I ****in' want one of these with the gears. Do you have pics yet of your ver. for use with 35 adapters?

Thanks waltind. It was really a nice trailer, but I couldn't see anything. The cuts are WAY too quick. I wanted to see more of the unite and more footage, but there was too much cutting. Good job either way and thanks. Tim.

Great looking vid... you already heard about the cuts being too quick, but aside from that... You done good, very impressive.

Thanks. I plan on slowing down some of the cuts, and providing more time on the CU's but that will have to wait until tomorrow, as I've got another project to work on.

can you please expand with illustrations your discussion of the adaptations that must be made to use this with the CAVSION matter box?

the whole c shape vs. s shape has me puzzled!

thanks for the amazing review and the trailer

(can you expand it to show mounting and placement on the rods please?)

when do you think we can order this with an adapter for Nikon lenses?

No problem. I will update the review with pictures showing how to adjust the matte box. I should be able to do that either tonight or tomorrow. Will let you know when it is done.

You'll have to talk with Tim for the answer on that one. You can contact him directly from his web site: www.indifocus.com

The review has been updayed with pictures regarding the S & C shape - hopefully that helps clarify things for you.

I can vouch for everyone here who is wanting to try out an indiFOCUS, I recieved mine last week and it is great.

The "noise" problem some people were curious about is not a problem, with 2 very small slits of padding tape, that tiny clicking noise is gone.

The indiFOCUS is so smooth its like cutting through warm butter somehow...yes

Great product overall and definitely the cheapest quality FF out there for the DVX, a must have i'd say.

Will the IndiFocus work with the G35?? say im using a using a nikon 50mm manual focus lense. Does the rubber foam wheel adjust to the reach the lense??

I believe they are currently working on if not finished on a 35mm version of the indiFOCUS, I have not tried mine with an adapter but with extended rods dont see why a standard indiFOCUS wouldnt fit the job.

First off, the indiFOCUS is adjustable in the x,y, and z axis. Simply put, you can adjust it higher or lower, closer or further out, and by adjusting where it tightens to the rods, how far fore and aft it sits. This allows it to fit any lens diameter. If you are using a large diameter lens on a DOF adaptor, or think you may at some point, I have an extention bracket, no additional charge, just ask when ordering it and it will ship out.
For DOF adaptors, I am offering a geared version. Some 35mm slr lens are "tighter" than others and you may notice some slippage. Because of that, the geared version is available.

NOTE**** The indiFOCUS is modular. That means the friction wheel can be replaced by unscrewing one set screw with an included allen wrench. The geared drive module then slids on and is tightened down. You can purchase the standard indiFOCUS for $299, and if you find that you need the gear because of your tight 35mm lenses, purchase the gear module and the lens gears for an additional $90. (It is the same price either way as the indiFOCUSgear is $389.) If you're just using the stock lens with the DVX, Sony, or Canon, the friction wheel is more than adequate. And in fact you get the friction wheel with the indiFOCUSgear---let's face it, if you're doing a shoot without a DOF adaptor and 35mm lenses, just use the friction wheel and then no mods are needed on your stock camera.
