I really like the new size. It looks more natural.

Ya . During the design phase it just seemed to get a little bit bigger with each prototype... Being concerned with other issues it went sort of unnoticed. This is much better I think.

Not really "new" size... It's the original size. :cheesy:

The size was my only concern. Downsized like that, you've got yourself a buyer right here. :D

Any expectations as to when you will be shipping?

I hope to be able to ship soon. I have some parts being held up at customs. Apparently terrorists use small black knobs to make dirty bombs.

I would love to roll out a bunch by the weekend, but I just have to wait and see. I will have enough for a ton of boxes so this wont be an issue again once I get rolling.

Be careful about giving any date...you don't want any crazy rants about when they're going to get their matte boxes.

This is why I wont take pre orders. I will only sell when sitting by the door ready to ship.

Dakotapod...niice job!

Im still a little iffy about seeing the mattebox blocking the microphone to the target that its shooting.

Would it effect the sound at all while shooting?

It could be a concern, yes. But the bloody mic on the DVX is only an inch off the lens so not much can be done about that. It barely clears the stock sunshade. The matte box has a rubber coating on it, but how that will help or hurt the audio when using the built in mic is beyond me. Slimothy will be reviewing it shortly and I will see if he is up for some audio tests....

blckhawk542 if you're using the onboard mic don't buy this and get a mic! Every matte box blocks the mic, that should be a non issue.

dakotapod great job for making this, I'm loving the reduced size! I'm gonna get an fx1 or z1 and use this with it, I've never thought about using filters but now I can! When you make an offical post/site/whatever about your product being available you should post some links to sites that tell what the individual filters do. I know next to nothing about filters and the ones at B&H don't describe what they do! So if you sold people matte boxes and taught them where they could go learn filters that'd be nuts!

Will there be an adpater so it will fit the HVX/JVC's 82mm lens?

If not, would you think it be hard to rig one?

I don't know, I kinda liked the bigger version better..... Still lookin' good though,

John

No it wont work - Can not be used on a camera with a lens bigger then 72mm.
It's not an adapter issue - Any bigger and it would have unusable vignetting

I do plan on doing some tests to see how much sound reduction you get when the box is on/off, although I agree w/ the person who said this should pretty much be a non-issue.

I've been watching the development of this product, like most people, since the original annoucement was made and have to say, I think that this is a great product and a great idea. The price ends up being less than the fabric based Matteblox and it looks like you are getting a product that will support an extremely available and affordable filter solution. In my opinion, Dakota you have hit a home run with this one because people who normally would never consider using a mattebox for their projects now have one accessable at a very affordable and reasonable price.

I am still on the fence with the whole case issue, but love the side flags. Good job, it looks great, looking forward to the reviews, and being able to order one...

I'm sorry for the delay! - Still waiting on some parts that were supposed to be here over a week ago. :(

This was exactly what I wanted avoid with too early an announcement. :undecided

As soon I get what I need I will fly a box off Slimothy for review - Will keep you posted.
