Indiana Jones 4

I think they should've just struck some new Raiders prints with a nice, fresh mix-down for a new generation.

No more parachutes!

Since we're having fun ribbing now... how about Harrison's stunt double on the motorcycle? No comment on that? "Hey stop stop... his hair is blowing into a nearly perfect cone... MAKE-UP!"

For a film... ANY film... to withstand the criticism of this film-making community... it's gotta' be good. I've argued with friends for a while now that analyzing a film doesn't ruin it for me... but I need to add that I can only analyze and enjoy when the film is extremely well executed.

I think NCFOM and TWBB prove that a flick can be dramatic and realistic at the same time... hell the original Raiders proved it... maybe some of you guys are right in saying that they are consciously creating UN-realistic crap... for the lowest common denominator. I'll make a safe-bet right now that Indy4 gets nominated for nothing.

Very revealing interview with Gary Kurtz about many things, including George Lucas and how his attitudes changed over the years--

IGNFF: From your personal experience, how would you compare the George you worked with on American Graffiti to the George you worked with towards the end of The Empire Strikes Back?

KURTZ: It was quite different, actually. He was very different. I think the most unfortunate thing that happened was the fact that Indiana Jones came along, and Raiders of the Lost Ark had come out in between. George and I had many, many discussions about that, but it boiled down to the fact that he became convinced that all the audience was interested in was the roller-coaster ride, and so the story and the script didn't matter anymore.

Now Raiders is not a bad film, but the script actually was much better than the finished film. There were a lot more nuances in the character, and there was less action. It would've been a better picture if that script had been made. But, as it is, it's an interesting and entertaining film – it's just that this idea that somehow the energy doesn't have to be put into getting really good story elements together. One of the arguments that I had with George about Empire was the fact that he felt in the end, he said, we could have made just as much money if the film hadn't been quite so good, and you hadn't spent so much time. And I said, "But it was worth it!"

Lucas literally stuns me. Why this man is involved in the biz is a mystery.

Guy has done nothing of any substance since Star Wars. (Unless you count ruining the franchise and screwing up INDY)

Except that his companies have been involved in hundreds of movies since.

Maybe he's just not meant to be a writer/director.

If you read up on George you'll find that at heart, he's an eccentric, avant-garde filmmaker who got pushed into narrative filmmaking to pay the bills. His interest in filmmaking has always been on a more abstract, aesthetic level (montage, sound design), rather than as a storytelling medium. To him, character, story, and dialogue are a hassle and get in the way of what he's really interested in, so the less he has to do of it the better. That's why I think he places more importance on the success of Star Wars and Raiders being due to their form, not the content.

well he shoulda stayed off of indiana jones if he's "that" deep :)

i want my money back.

i felt like i was watching E.T. towards the end and then quickly turned into an episode of the X-Files.

Frank Darabont draft, right here--

http://link-protector.com/521289/

Unfortunately, looks like the fridge nuking scene is still in there....and reading on, more dumb crap, better executed, but still dumb.

That's probably the worst screening tool (at that link) I've ever seen. How can you tell which letters are attached to a cat, when it all looks like scribbles and smudges? I think some of those doodles are supposed to be dogs, but I got it wrong twice and now I've been denied access.

EDIT:

To wit:

You're supposed to pick only the characters "attached to a cat." It will let you enter no more than 4. So, which ones do you pick here?

I think if you download it between 5 and 8pm, there is no screening process. The call it rapidshare happy hour. That's when I did it...Anyway, sad to say the script really isn't all that much better. The biggest difference is the lack of Shia LeBouf's character, Mac is a Russian named Yuri, and the Marion in this script sounds like the one from Raiders, not a grinning soccer mom. But most of the bad ideas are still here, along with some new ones (alcoholic indy?), and some tired dialogue. It's becoming clear to me that Darabont isn't really that good at coming up with original stuff. He only seems to know how to adapt Stephen King novels really well.

So far I'm not seeing that.... I'm about 26 pages in...

and what you probably deem as "bad ideas" I enjoyed...

I liked Indy 4... so...

Too much of it feels like "Indy's Greatest Hits", with constant dialogue winks to other films in the series.

YURI
...adventure still has a name!

Puh-leeeze! That wasn't even in one of the movies, it's from a poster!
