Indi Matte Box, FaderND, Cokin: Opinions and alternatives

I currently own a Canon 7d and am looking for a low end matte box/filter holder. I don't really want to spend more than $400, but I need a good way to use ND filters.

I have heard about the Cokin filter holder... Is this reliable?

Also there is the FaderND. Are there step up rings available for this?

I use the Tokina 11-16, the Tamron 17-50, and a Series 1 Vivitar Nikon 70-210. The Tokina is 77mm, the other two are 67mm.

I feel like the Fader ND would be the best option if I could adapt it to work on all of my lenses, but if not, what would be the best option?

Let's see if we can shed some light onto your situation....

Q: I have heard about the Cokin filter holder... Is this reliable?

A: No idea (doh!, 0 for 1)

Q: Also there is the FaderND. Are there step up rings available for this?

A: Yes. They work like any other screw on filters. I use the 77mm version with 82mm front glass and use step up rings to convert up my lenses.

I use the Cokin P series stuff and it works fine. Don't get caught up in the mattebox hype. The only time though that I use the Cokin filter holder/hood is when I need to use a Cokin filter. The rest of the time, a normal lens hood is fine as long as you keep stray light out of the lens.
