Index Markings

I know that when you index on the tape you are able to search by those points in the tape, but i was wondering if those index marks were copied over to Final Cut Pro when i capture the footage. This would be awesome if it did. I would be able to mark right after my best takes.  I'll definitely try it next time i am able too, but i was just wondering if anybody had already done it.

can you/anyone tell me how do you generate these indexes on the tape.
i just keep on rewinding and fastforwarding to get to the exact place from where i need to capture my filming clips and it is frustarting. also i get errors from premiere saying kind of 'devise offline', the play button on premiere does not do its' job only fw on the camcorder does.

I don't think FCP can copy the index marks over, I think that's a tape thing and not something that's inside the DV data stream. Could be dead wrong however.

For generating indexes, it's pretty simple -- on the DVX100 there's an "index" button. On the DVX100A they changed "index" to "user3", but added a menu item that lets you assign the "index" function to one of the user buttons. You just press it at the start or end of a take, and it makes a mark on the tape. Then you can search to that mark by doing an "index search".

What about Premiere Pro? I've often wondered if I'm not fully utilizing the cameras capabilities in this regard.
