Incubus

so youre saying that you DONT want the chance to show your talent nationwide to be seen by millions of people therefore almost guaranteeing a paved road for the rest of your career? suit yourself, a better chance for me.

When I've seen anybody actually benefit from doing a video for one of these bands, maybe I'll start to sing a different tune. For now, all I've seen is that it benefits the groups who put out the contest, but I haven't seen any winners really making a break in the industry.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we'll see a better market if newcomers to the industry start winning and really benefit. I just want to see it first.

hmmm... youve mentioned 2 names, Stephen Colbert (a contest purely for fun), and The Decemberists, which according to the Billboard charts are number.... ummm... oh yeah, theyre not on there.

Obviously Incubus is much bigger (and better IMO) than the Decemberists, so yeah, I think it will launch the winners career.

Ok dave, I downloaded that codec you linked earlier and Im still getting the same problem. Is anybody still having this problem, or has anybody been able to fix it yet? Im getting aggrevated with these damn files :(

Either way mrWrOng has a point there. It is 50% free work and 50% communication.
The rules for the contest are clear. It may be used.
From where I see it is like "let's get a great video clip concept for free", but again the winner sure can benefit from this.

i had to download the DV25 clips but the res isn't great. I didn't try that codec but i was away on vacation and haven't had the time. How's everyone doing with this? I hope someone has time to put something together.

I still havent been able to find anything on the DV50 codec, which is what we had to send to them.

any info on this mysterious codec would be amazing

They may be doing this because of other recent promos, but it's not a first for Incubus. They did a music video contest back in 2000 during the heydey of Eveo.com when you could enter contests on there and submit short films that they'd pay you $100 a pop for... and I'm talking SHORT.

I miss the dot com boom.

DV50 is DVCPRO 50, it's a panasonic codec. It's DV with 4:2:2 colour, which is much better for the green screen. Not sure why it wouldn't be on your computer, though.

Also it was shot at 23.98fps so that could also be a reason you might be having trouble with it.

How do I get the song to edit to. I downloaded the song while I am at work but could see a link to download the song

okay the song is in the footage and they were all matched up from the in point. I tried to do the multiclip edit in final cut pro but it choked pretty bad. I couldn't view 4 DV50 clips at the same time just completely stopped playing the videos. What type of hardrive array would I need to edit 6 DV50 clips at the same time?

Side note Keylight is amazing on the DV50 files. the green disappeared and left all the shadows. It actually worked to well. How would I get rid of the shadows and little plus signs.

I am going to try to just clone them when they get in the way. Mask won't work becuase it removes the shadows also.

I just finished my first edit of the song a few mins ago. Not gona submit, but man it was fun. Have no idea what i'm gona comp in, however...

it sucks that this contest is only open to people in the states though, what about us up here in sunny Canada?!

They could've picked a better song...

It's so... uninspiring for an Incubus track.

Ah well.
