Incorrect truths you brought into adulthood

My mom pronounced chimichanga as "CHANG-GA" (chang like the Chinese pronounciation) and I found out in late High School (not quite adulthood but it made it awhile).

When I was a kid we were walking on the beach and my parents threw down snap-its on the sand to make it light up everytime I jumped, and told me it was electricity lines running under the sand. I had this memory of it, but never put it together that they were throwing snap its and so until I was 22 I always thought there was this "electric beach" where you could jump and it would light up.

(3) Turning On A Florescence Light Will Consume More Power Than Letting It Run For An Hour: Well it is true that many things draw more power when they are first turned on, like motors. However, the extra energy for the power on surge is not even close to the energy consumed for an hour. Consider a 25 watt florescent bulb, in 1 hour it consumes 25 watt/hours of energy. Now even if it required as much as 100 amps of current for 4 seconds at the point of power on, that comes to 0.11 watt/hours of energy. By the way, the bulbs do not take that much energy to turn on. So, the amount of energy to turn it on isn't even close to what it burns in an hour.

Yeah, but in our kitchen I have to turn on 3 other lights until the Energy saving lamp started up :D Man, that takes forever...
