I haven't had the opportunity to fully troubleshoot the problem yet, but I've been having problems recently with batteries dying in my D90 when the camera is off.
The first time it happened, I assumed that I had inadvertently left the camera on when I had put it away in its bag.
The second time it happened was after I put a fresh, fully charged battery into the camera, and put the camera away in its bag, and made sure that the camera was off. So I figured that something in the bag must have been snagging on the power switch.
The third time it happened was after I put a fresh, fully charged battery into the camera, made sure that the camera was off, taped the power switch into off position, and put the camera away in its bag. When I took my D90 out, the power switch was still in the off position, but the battery was completely drained.
I have two batteries for my D90- the Nikon battery that came with it, and a 3rd-party. I'm pretty sure that it's only the Nikon battery that keeps dying on me.
I can rule out ambient temperature as a factor- I've done a number of cold-weather shoots in the past, so I know how sub-zero temperatures affect battery performance. I store my D90 inside, where the room temp is about 35c.
Also, I don't use the MB-80 vertical grip, so I only have one battery in my camera at a time.
Has anyone else run into this problem???
