IN SEARCH OF AE Tutorials: Floating text in a city of 2d images

Hi,

I want to be able to create a city scene with 2d images (still photos) and float text and objects such as logos within the scene passing behind elements in the foreground. Challenge has been locating a tutorial to teach me how. Any ideas? I've been through all VideoCoPilot's tutorials and have searched through most everything Creative Cow has. If any of you know of a tutorial for this concept, I'd greatly appreciate a finger in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure I've seen a tutorial for that, but basically, what you'll want to do is:

Make layer that will be behind the video footage (text, picture, whatever).
Motion track it to your liking using points of something the same distance from the camera)
Apply track to Null
Parent the layer to the null.
Duplicate background layer. Put that layer on top.
Rotoscope (use the pen tool to mask) the things in the footage you want to be in front of the text / picture.
Turn on the position for that mask (press"mm" on the new top layer to reveal it)
Go frame by frame moving the points.
Save often.
