You can get a free copy of Maya to pratice on from the Alias website. I wouldnt recommend purchasing that software on a whim to create a logo. The amount of time it would take to learn the software in order to put together a decent logo ,in addition to the cost of the software itself, would outweigh paying someone to design one for you.
