In camera mic verry bad

I tried to improve a sound of in camera mic listing manual and experimenting for a couple of days now, but recorded sound still remains of a very bad quality. (On a DV tape). First of all it is quiet (even when I raise volume of both chanels to the end, it just has more noise , but the volume of the sound increases very little. The sound is never clear and of a bad quality. My sisters 500$ camcorder has five times lot more better sound then of my brand new HVX. I tried to cange gain from -50 to -60 but it just gives more noise.
How this can be from a 5000 euro camcorder? Am I missing something here?

I seldom rely on the built in camera microphone for audio but when I have the audio has been perfectly useable for ambient sound. You certainly would not want to rely on it for interviews or crucial audio but it works fine otherwise. I think you will find that most people use a dedicated shotgun microphone for ambient audio.

It sounds to me like you have either a bad built in microphone or your settings are not correct.

yeah, we use that mic for scratch track and ambiance, but never primary sound. It's just not build for it.

Yeah, neider I am going to use it for a primary sound, I have rode ntg-2 shotgun, but I expected it to be at least a little bit better. I mean if the volume meter goes to the top,( not allways, I adjusted it correctly to the volume meters) it needs to be heard properly not porelly when watching recorded material.
