In Bruges

I saw this a little while back and enjoyed it.At times it seemed unessasarily time consuming, but it turned out to be pretty good.

I enjoyed it. Definitely a British film with British humour and quirky plotting. Like the Bruge location as well -- my favourite city in that part of Europe.

Word. But I'd say it's mostly Irish. Mcdonagh's Irish, as are Gleeson and Farrell.

Man. I dug this movie so much when I first saw it. I was hyped, (seen both his play & his short and loved 'em). But the second time through it seemed to lose a lot of its flow. Whereas the first viewing I was IN the whole way through, the second time I found myself pretty bored.
Although this is the way Mcdonagh felt about the city of Bruges, so I guess I'm on the right track.

As far as his plays being overrated, I wholeheartedly disagree. At a time when good New theatre is so sparse, Mcdonagh is reeling in a new generation of young people with great exciting work.

And while he makes theatre younger and faster, he brings the traditional, take-your-time rehearsal process back to movies -- which is something I definitely appreciate.

Finally actually saw this. Thought it was really quite good, reminded me very much of a Coen Bros film. And the filmmaking is a huge step up from his short. Which was pretty good, but still kind of wonky in camera usage.

Turned a little contrived as it went on, and I kind of liked it more earlier when it meandered through Bruges. But the writing is about a thousand miles above most other films these days. Like I said, reminded me of Coen Bros, and if he sticks to films, I think he can eventually reach their level of mastery in the medium.

Performances way off the charts by three masters.

great little film, refreshing & funny dialogue, not scared to push the un pc aspect, thought Colin Farrel was actually pretty good in this, rest of the cast great as expected. For Mcdonagh's 1st film this is a little gem, though I kind of expected it after seeing his short, 6 Shooter

Midget...karate chop...uncontrollable, eyes watering laughter...I really liked this. Beautifully shot, well written, excellent performances by all. I'd forgotten what a scary bastard Ralph Fiennes can be...But that scene with the coked out midget...I haven't laughed that hard in a while.
