Impressive DOF test shot PMW350 XDCAM EX

Was doing some test shooting with a newly acquired Sony PMW350 and was very impressed with some of the images. Here's a vid with just a single shot that I was rather impressed with. First frame is the stock image, and second is color graded. I found the DOF to be very nice and smooth. Just using the stock Fuji lens that comes with it.

Let me know you thoughts... I'll continue testing it and post what I can. Any interest in a review?

Yeah just using the stock settings right now. I haven't had time to play with the adjustments yet. Have you done any adjusting yet with yours yet? Post if you do and settings. I'd like to see some test footage too

The DOF even at wider angles is quite nice also. I'll post some wide stuff soon. I can't recall what zoom I was at but it was at the long end of the lense.

Yeah, 2/3"/16mm at f/2 has nice DOF characteristics indeed.

What about other IQ stuff? Does this camera also benefit from a more smooth/cinematic image if you turn DETAIL off like in the EX1?

where does it say the focal length was 16mm and he was f2?

Not doubting Pietro just would like some info. Two brothers can you confirm
focal length, f stop and distance from subject to lens?

I think what Pietro was referring to was 16mm film size, and not what zoom i was at.

I was shooting at f1.9 and I was only about 1.6m(5 or 6 ft.) away from the subject. A lot closer than I originally thought. As far as zoom in the XDCAM clip browser, it's saying i was at 496mm.. Would that be referring to the zoom if i were to be using a 35mm equivalent lens?

Thanks TwoBrothers. Hey would you shoot a standard close up of talent head/shoulders?

8' from camera, 6 from background wall? At f2.4 ~ f2.5 I'm guessing focal length for that cam would be somewhere 16 ~ 20mm.

Just trying to get an idea of dof test on an everyday narrative situation when someone is speaking.

Still from video is fine.

If you don't have time I understand but a dof test such as I described is very useful to us all.

I know where you're getting at... :cheesy:

Yeah, I've actually been doing a lot of interviews with it over the last month. I'll go over some stuff and post. I've been very impressed with it in that area.

I'll see if I can find anything close to your specs. If not I'll shoot something this week.

Zach.
