I updated my post in the F3 frame grabs section with some newly graded footage I shot. I am pretty impressed with how the footage held up after being graded, especially for sxs 8-bit 420 footage. This is exactly the semi-monochromatic look I was going for and the artist and producer are thoroughly impressed with the samples.
I thought this would be really neat to share the before and after. The final video version will have film grain added, probably some saturation reduced, and whites brought down to reduce the contrast slightly.
Things to note: white balance was set to 4400 to be in-between daylight and tungsten sources in this shot. Cinegamma 4 was used and all other picture profile settings defaulted. Exposure was f2.8 on artists face. The original footage has almost a flat look to it and is mostly made up of lows and mid-tones. You can see that by dropping the photo into photoshop and looking at the histogram. By using cinegamma 4 the middle grey point is raised to the highest point available of all cinegammas, 60 IRE. This helps spread the dark information over more of the signal so later when they are raised in post less of the image falls apart.
