SHORT: Impression (Uncut fight excerpt from another short film)

Hey all, just presenting a fight scene that I turned into its own "mini short" out of a bigger short I am planning to hopefully finish sometime by the end of this year or early next. Basically in the short, i'm presenting a live action mixtape of sorts, so the fights revolve around the music, beats, and what song mixes into another, so that's how the fights will flow intercut, and variate based on the styles of music and fighting hand in hand. However..

The way this scene is presented is much more about atmosphere, build up, and mood. I got a lot of recent inspiration from the works of Jeff Imada (imdb - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0408001/) and I tried to variate the fight choreo as such. Anyway, enough expositional talking, just let me know how you feel about it, good or bad, I just tried my best with what I did haha. :cheesy: Enjoy it for what it is :)

This was shot on a Canon Rebel T2i, 1080p 24frames, on the 18 - 55mm kit

Hey Spider,

Badass fight scene! It was well shot, choreographed, and executed and you chose good sound effects to. The first couple of minutes with the build up seem too long and without a story from the bigger short, it seemed unneeded, but I guess you are using the full song to build the atmosphere. It could be fixed probably with just cutting the intro down, maybe in half from 2 minutes to 1 minute if you plan on working on it anymore.

Again, I really dug the fight scene and matching it with the music and beats worked really well. The choice of high-shutter speed was good as well.

Nice job.

Thanks Andy! I was definitely playing up matching the music and definitely experimented with a longer, drawn out intro (sorta classical in a sense). But for sure, I'd definitely tone down a lot of it to get more to the point in a efficient way. Thanks for pointing it out, and for viewing! :)

Takes too long to get the fight scene.

Also I think there are a couple issues with the sound for me that really stand out. The white noise that starts with the shot of the guy lighting his smoke just sounds like "bad noise" in the beginning. It made me think of home movie quality and I didn't want to continue watching.

Secondly, when it gets to the fight scene I find that the recorded sounds are too ambient and the sfx are too prominent. You can either record the one set "voices" better or reverb some of the sfx to push them back a little, but not too much. It would sound better if you could do the on set sound again but that's a lot of work, maybe ADR? Also they aren't all lined up very well.

Cheers.

Congratulations Emmanuel...very nice fight, mate. Keep working...the lead up to the fight, as expressed already, lack some story telling but that comes with experience too and study...dont overlook this part because your fight sequence looks polished...

Good work!!!
