Just a heads up for any 5D beginners out there.
I've done a lot of experimenting with different codecs over the past few days and it seems XDCAM EX 35mbps has an edge on ProResLT.
The file sizes are half the size.
It boosts gamma slightly, resulting in a tiny bit more noise being visible. But it's not adding any. And colour saturation is a lot closer to the highly saturated 5D H.264 source footage than Pro Res.
No problems playing back XDCAM EX and editing in FCP 7 on a Core Duo 2.16ghz Macbook Pro. Performance is great!
I recommend this format for arching footage. The quality is so good you can delete your original (rather large) 5D .MOV files. The file size of XDCAM footage at 100% quality still comes under the 5D source file size.
