Impossible to log from tape on new iMac?

So I've got a new iMac. You know, the one's with one friggin' firewire port? I got a G drive to go with it, and while I was able to Log and Transfer using a four pin to nine pin cable piggy backing my HVX to the G Drive (from P2), I've got some tape that I need to capture, and it just isn't happening. I'm using an old Canon ZR60 for a deck, and I've got the 4 to 9 cable connected to the G Drive, but when I try Log and Capture it doesn't recognize the device and it disconnects the G Drive. Incidentally, when I turn the camera off, the G drive mounts again. I'm totally at a loss. Help.

New wrinkle. The HVX works fine for log and capture - though I really prefer not to use it as a deck. the Canon is giving me the problems. Seems like I just used it not too long ago to capture some footage from tape on my old iMac. Could it be that the camera and 4 to 9 pin aren't compatible?

Might try using Firewire Basic for the Canon, and capture directly to the iMac.

Then transfer the footage when done to the G Tech.

Canon's don't play nice with firewire.

Also maybe try changing your settings to an uncontrollable device. You'll have to hit play on the camera yourself and you will only be able to capture now.
Best of Luck!
