Importing Squeeze footage with non Squeeze camera

Hi,

I just shot a project with a rented PAL dvx-100A in squeeze mode at progressive 25p. Now that the shoot is over, and the camera has been returned, I want to import the footage from the dv tapes with a standard PAL Sony mini-dv camera using FinalCut Pro.

My question is whetter the Sony camera is able to output a proper video signal (since the sony doesn't have a squeeze mode or 25p) to import as 16:9? or do I need to use the dvx-100A for importing?

So far when I try importing it seems that when using the Sony camera, FinalCut wanted to import the footage as 4:3. When I switch the import setting to widescreen it stretches the image horizontally?

Has anyone tried this before?

Or know if there is an issue in doing this?

Thanks

the camera has nothing to do with it. dv data is dv data...how your NLE handles that data is another thing all together. i know nothing about squeeze mode, but i do know the chip inside the camera is 4x3 and you record the footage with a 0.9 pixel aspect ratio. so that info plus the DV header tells the NLE that the footage it is getting is 720x480 (4x3) DV. hopefully someone more familiar with the squeeze mode will come along and help you.

I can't speak for FCP, but in Vegas all you have to do is drop the footage on a Widescreen timeline and it stretches it out for you.

Could someone tell me the correct setting for importing 25p Squeezed footage directly into FinalCut Pro 5?

Otherwise would I have to import as standard PAL then drop it into a widescreen sequence?

Remember that I am using a Sony Pal camera as a deck, although it seems from the responses that it shouldn't make a difference.

The problem is that I don't have the footage in front of me, and won't be capturing it myself. So I can't really trouble shoot this issue any further. This info is going to be passed on to production staff that are located in London.

Thanks again for the help! :)
