Importing/Relinking MXF files in Avid MC | PLEASE HELP!!

I am an FCP user, but recently was given a bunch of mxf clips that are apparently avid based. I have avid mc 4 running on my machine and when I try to import the mxf files into avid i get the following message

"You cannot import this file into a bin..."

I have also tried setting up the proper folder hierarchy on my drive but no luck in detecting the clips.

How can I get access to the MXF clips in Avid?

Can someone please guide me to getting the clips viewable in avid and ideally how to export for acceptance into Final Cut or just full res QT??

actually i am now able to see and export the files. i had to restart my external drive and restart avid after moving the folder structure to the root of the external.
 
Yes has to be the root of the drive. Avid is not like final cut. Avid used the root first to access folders containing media.
