Importing Question

I was editing yesterday and realized my footage was cropped. I opened a new project in CS4 and because most of my footage was 720 60p that is what I selected. However, when viewing the 1080 30p footage it was cropped. What is the proper way to edit both sizes? Sorry for the totally newbie question.

Well it is going to be cropped because it is larger in size. It is 1080 pixles tall vs 720 pixles tall. That is not something that you would want to do very often. Really the only things you can do is take your 1080 clips and scale them down to fit in the 720 window. I am not sure what the quality of that will be though...

Thanks Phil

If you want to downscale 1080p to 720p, and have it actually look good, use Lanczos resizing with VirtualDub, AVISynth, or Avidemux (all freeware). The major NLEs pretty much all suck at resizing.

So, is it best to shoot all the footage in a project at the same resolution (720 or 1080) or is there a way to mix and match other than resizing. And thank you for the freeware!

It is always best to shoot everything at the same size and frame rate. Sometimes that is not possible because you shoot one thing and then get footage from someone else for another part. If you are doing all the shooting you will do yourself a HUGE favor by shooting it all the same. Personally I cannot think of a reason that you would want to shoot it at different sizes...
