Importing photos in fcp issues

Hi, i am currently making a wedding video and the photographer sent me all his hi-res photos and when i import them into the time line they look extremely low-res...why is this? The photos are 4256 × 2832 and the time line in fcp is set for ntsc 720x480

Shouldn't that mean that the photo quality is more than enough?

What are your RT settings? Have you rendered the photos in the timeline?

When you place the photos in the timeline (which I'm assuming is DV) they get converted into DV which is exceptionally lower in quality than the original photos. Seeing a massive quality difference is normal.

FCP has to resize those photos, which I imagine to be not only several times larger than necessary but a high dpi. FCP doesn't resize very well, nor should you ask it to.

DPI means nothing in video. 1 dpi is sufficient.

Resize the photos to the same size as your sequence settings at 72 dpi if you wish and try that.

Make certain everything is fully rendered and that you are viewing on a properly calibrated external monitor.
