Importing Jpeg Images into FCP - solid green image?

I imported a few Jpegs into FCP for a work project. Once they are in final cut, I attempt to view them in the timeline or viewer and I see a solid green image. The original image is simply not there, and I can't figure out how to overcome this, it's the first time in 5 years of editing this has happened to me. One more strange thing about the image is that when I view in with "preview" default mac tool, it shows up with the negative inverted... yet when I load it with photoshop it looks normal. Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped on this...
 
I'd suggest convert them to TIF or BMP first- also make sure they're not in CMYK or 16-bit.
