Importing HVX200 Quicktimes into Avid

I'm running Avid 5.2.4 with Quicktime 6.5 on a PC. DP transferred the Quicktime files 35GB from a Firestore device to my drive. He shot in Quicktime Native mode 23.976. When I import one of the Quicktime files into the Avid in a 720p/23.976 project video plays 1 frame a second and audio plays fine. The 300MB Quicktime file after imported into Avid turns into a 4GB MXF file. I updated my QT player from 6.5 Pro to 7.1.5 Pro no fix.

When I play the origianl Quicktime file I get a black screen with audio.

What file formats does the HVX200 record footage too? I was told MXF but the DP just gave me Quicktimes? I now assume both? Any help would be golden right now....

bump, i would like to solve this issue as I am having it as well. I have a boatload of Quicktime PN's that work great on the editors FCP system but I want them for my reel and need to use in Avid. My error is

"ERROR_GETTING_MOVIE_FRAME_FROM QUICKTIME" are you getting this upon import? I also get the black screen with audio while playing on the desktop, this is with new Quicktime.

Have you tried messing with the timeline/project settings? 24p/film mode, or import settings?

I have searched for this on the avid website and forum and havent found anything, if you want to follow the thread over there: http://www.avid.com/exchange/forums/thread/210174.aspx
maybee we can find an answer

I am not asked to select a resolution when importing, in my settings for Import, under the OMFI tab there is, "use set resolution", "use clips resolution" and "ask me to pick resolution" none of these make any difference in the import.

Oh right in the window where you pick the files when importing, the box is set to DVCPro HD MXF, my other options are DNxHD 60 MXF and DNxHD 90 MXF. Changing this setting has no effect on my error message. It seems to detect the files are DVCPro HD MXF when i select the DNxHD option, so I know DVCPro HD is the right choice....when I change the files to DNxHD on import I loose audio and do not get video.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I've got the same thing happening to me, and it's frustrating. I've got a project that needs to go out ASAP, and I'm not able to import in ANYTHING. It does the "frame per second" thing, and I don't know what else to do.

I'm about to give the footage to a FCP editor friend of mine, and just pay him to do it, though I'm loathe to give up that control.

Anyone have any idea what can be done? I'm basically destroying my system trying to get this work. Now, Avid won't work for anything, and QT isn't letting me export anything.

Quick question. Can you play the Quicktime movie in QT Player, from the desktop of your computer (not thru Avid). If no, its a CODEC, QT or Firestore issue. If yes, its something with the way your avid is importing it. Either way, this should help you eliminate and move forward.

If it craps out with QT Player, make sure your CODECS are 100% up to date, which would be my first guess. Good luck.
