Hi all
How are you? Toddy calling from westoz. Im a director/cameraman with some fcp skills(basic) ... I have edited 2 docos that have aired., so I know my way round fcp enough but Im no editor. However, I know very little bout compressor and havent used black magic. My dilemna is I'm trying to import Gopro files ie 720P60 into fcp. I'm cutting the project using HDV 720P30 as the main camera is a JVC 111E and I've been shooting that at HDV720p30. When I try to import the gopro files which are all MP4 files as far as I can see, FCP gives me the error that FCP doesnt support the framerate or the way its represented, so wandering if anyone could help me out with an easy, clean roadmap that will solve the problem? If you could take me thru it step by step Id be absolutely indebted to you all as Im cutting a siizle reel for a doco im doing in the states and Im hoping to get started today. OK cheers in advance. The doco is about a surfer from my home town that wants to become a bullrider in the US but he has nebver ridden a horse. Just shot 3 weeks in the US...my God those bullriders have got some Gonads. Im sticking to the surf.
Regards Toddy

Hi Toddy,

I use the Gopro a lot for windsurfing (in W-Oz actually...) and use FCE for editing.

I use the freeware JES deinterlacer to convert all 720 60p footage into 720 30p via AIC (Prores can also be used). The nice thing is that your output speed can be set, so I use 0.5 x speed, whereby all frames are maintained, doubling the clip speed. Gives very nice slomo's.

Regards,

Frans

Hi thanks Frans for that. I'll download the software. Will it allow you to do bulk transfers as I have about 10 hours?
Regards Toddy

You can do a few clips at a time, but I haven't tried a great to do more than 3-4. 10 hours of clips will take quite some time.

If you don't want to reduce speed, you can also use MPEG streamclip (also freeware), where you can batch many files and just let it run at night.

From my Pana TM700 I first export them via MPEG stream clip and if I want a slomo, also run 'm through JES.
