Importing an HD project into an SD one

This is an annoyance that cropped up yesterday when I had to use my backup computer to render some HD footage. The HD project is already finalized but I usually import it into an SD timeline and rescale before rendering as this gives a sharper picture.

Worked fine on my regular computer but for some reason the Premiere on my backup insists on rescaling the HD project into 720x480 when I import it into the SD timeline. It does this by cutting off the edge of the frame which results in a horribly pixelated picture. Anyone know why it does this? I like to know if this happened to my main computer. It's the same Premiere 2.0 on both comp.

from my experience in premiere pro 2, importing higher pixeled images will result in cropping and not resizing. You can then set a position to it and zoom it out to fit the screen properly. Not the best way to down-convert but it works, can do the same in AE

Yeah, Premiere deals with all materials in their original native size/pixel-aspect-ratio. So pulling HD into an SD project will leave a LOT of the image cropped off in the timeline. (Though you see it all in the "Source" monitor, as that's source-native display, not project output display).

With your clip on the timeline, you will need to scale it down in the "Effects Properties" pallet with the clip in question selected.

Yea, that's how it usually works, but not this time. There's nothing to scale out of. The footage size should have been reported as 1440x1080 but it shows up as a 720x480 frame size. Premiere basically took a chunk out of the footage and imported that, nothing else.
