I havent had any issues since i had a new hardrive installed into my powerbook laptop from my earlier problems. But reading these new posts are beginning to freak me out. My workflow has been p2 genie to offload to a folder on my desktop and then ingest into final cut pro. I would be devistated if i encountered problems again. So i ask this from a past post.

try using disk utility to store your P2 files... your workflow seems flawed.. It's best to use disk utility to make a clone of the P2 card instead of dragging the files to a hard drive (files can become corrupted that way because they are FAT32 on the card, and NTFS on your mac desktop)... Put the p2 card into your laptop.. Then open disk utility.. Click on the Mashi*sa P2 Card and then click new image... Make the settings to read only and make sure there is no compression... Then Click OK to make the disk image... Eject the P2 Card... Then Mount the disk image clone from whereever you saved it and try and ingest from there

is this more reliable then my workflow of doings things?

Macs are not NTFS they are FAT32. NTFS can only be read by Windows XP and of course Windows NT/2000.

I use a pc and raylight. I drag the entire contents of a p2 card into its own numbered folder in my main footage folder. I then use Raylight to convert them to AVIs that PPro and AE will let me edit. I burn backup DVDs of the footage and also keep a copy on a 500g external drive I only connect and power up to archive footage.

The only footage loss I've had has been human error. obsessive compulsive assistant moving data between external drives and being so fatigued he deleted both copies...he was punished

Macs are not FAT32, where'd you read that? P2 cards, the FS-100, and Cineporter are FAT32, but Macs are not FAT32 at all!

Don't do all that making a disk image crap, it does nothing for you, solves nothing. Apple suggested it when the P2 bug in OS X showed up at first, but it didn't fix anything. Drag and drop from a P2 card to your hard drive is about as reliable as it's going to get.

All FCP users need to go to the FCP Feedback page and fill it out, every week! Get Apple to fix this freakin' bug NOW! Not wait until NAB and OS 6! I started a thread in the FCP area about this with a link to the FCP Feeback page.

Yea freekin me out too since we've just committed to the workflow. Ben, would you care to given an opinion as to the consistency of this problem? a) Frequently(at least 80% chance) b) Moderate (50% chance) c) Very seldom (10% or less chance). I'm not much of a gambler so hoping is closer to c)

i just wrote them an angry letter. Curious if anyone has gotten any type of response from these people?i love mac so i hope this is resolved.

I can't say how many Macs have the problem. All I know is there are a handful of us here (how many HVX users don't know about this site, more than you'd think) have the problem off and on. I found switching between FCP and P2 Log, that I pretty much get everything. It just shouldn't be this much of a PITA.

Fill out that Feedback Page, state clearly this needs to be addressed NOW! Not at NAB in v.6! Too long to wait! We are working professionls, we need results now!

Ok, let me go take my meds...
