I don't understand why the GH2 is so hard to get hold of in the US - in the UK, it's in stock in many places, and the price has already started to fall - an indication of it's unpopularity with UK camera buyers?

It will be sub- £500 body only by May, or I'll eat my FD 300mm lens ;)

That's weird, because it's virtually impossible to find here. And it's very frustrating and makes one wonder what's going on with Panasonic.

The UK has traditionally paid almost twice the US price for photographic equipment.

That would, naturally, make the UK a preferred place for greedy manufacturers to sell their stuff (and they don't come much greedier than Panasonic)

However, those days are rapidly ending - high unemployment, the prospect of rising interest rates, and the certainty that tens of thousands of jobs will be lost as a result of government policies, all add up to a country where people are either unable to spend, or afraid to spend.

Hence prices will fall.

When the message that 'Treasure Island' is no more finally sinks in, the manufacturers will probably try and peddle their stuff in less profitable markets, like the US.

What does a GH2 cost to make & ship? - $200?, that's probably being over generous.

Everything above that is profit, profit, profit....

Yeah, everything you say makes sense and it would certainly explain the lack of product here. Fortunate, I'm not desperate, so I can wait until it's available. Well, as long as it's by May!

Eventually the cost of production will go up as the raw material prices go up either this decade or next decade. I just wanna enjoy my hobby while I can... God bless America for that... for now.

BTW panny manager said GH series is a lot more popular in Asia and Europe than in the States where overall GH2 is a niche market.

It also has to do with the very weak US dollar, far less profit. Panasonic isn't the only one whom has done this, lots of companies in many industries have

Count me in on impatiently waiting, I usually buy from B&H but it looks like i need to try somewhere else. Someone has a Silver version on craigslist in San Francisco but they have not gotten back to me and I really want a black one. I want the 14-42 kit because I'm going to get the Tamron 17-50 2.8 non vc. It's crazy that there is such a limited supply, I've checked this board everyday for more than 2 months now keeping tabs on the GH2, now I'm ready to buy and I can't.

I hear you on that, but I guess I'm spoiled and need instant gratification. Also I've borrowed a friends 60D for my last 4 music vids and I'm ready to move on to the GH2. Funny thing is I've never seen one in person in fact I've never even seen a GH1.
^^^ the best thing to do is just to pre-order it and wait in line.

someone said Unique Photo in NJ had some. I called them yesterday and they said they just sold their last one. Now they don't know when they will get more :-(.
