IMDB Ranking

474,505. Really, IMDB ranking is meaningless. I used to obsess about my kid's ranking. He was ~100K then his FF came out and it hit ~8K, now it is 28K. They say working actors are below 50K.... Don't worry, it just takes a good series or film and it will go up (or down in this case). I'll keep an eye out for you. Break legs.

109k...

I'd say cinematographers don't stand a chance, but Roger Deakins, Wally Pfister, and Robert Richardson all fall under 1,000... AND those were the only names I tested.

I figured the first thousand would be just Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Ben Stiller, Brad Pitt, and on, and on, and on and on.

Unless you have IMDBpro you can't see the rankings. Without Pro membership you only see the weekly changes. PaPa is ~69K this week and Doc is ~643K. I only subscribe because of my kid who is~24K. Ryan, you are 412,532.

I've got IMDB Pro... Is the ranking really meaningless and do people really use that to "rank" someones talent? I saw a prior post and it stated that if you are under 50k you are a working actor. I'm not (under 50k as of today), yet I just completed 5 movies... Hummmm

We've discussed this before; #1 changes based on the hot news of the day. The IMDB rankings are based on some combination of box office, news reports, etc. So if Leonard Nimoy was arrested for drug smuggling in Thailand tomorrow, his IMDB ranking would skyrocket because of all the news reports and searches being done on him - even though that wouldn't really affect his employability or box office draw one bit.

In general, the higher-ranked are likely the more-working, but the system is subject to massive fluctuations and is heavily based on box office and news, and not so much on title or position. I think if LeftofCen was the star of a no-budget film and made $100,000 for it, that might increase his IMDB ranking by ... who knows, 50 points? But if he was listed as the set photographer on The Hobbit, that might catapult him up 10,000 points or more. Wild guesses, obviously, but I think that's about the way it works.

From the IMDB site, "STARmeter rankings provide a snapshot of who's popular based on the searches of millions of IMDb users. Updated weekly, these rankings also graph the popularity of people over time and determine which events affect public awareness."
It is an arbitrary system that somehow rates hits for lookups using a convoluted and weighted algorithm. At the moment Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is rated #1 for Transformers. It has been mentioned in various forums that working actors usually are rated under 50K. Just something that came to mind that I mentioned beforehand.
What you see on the Starmeter rankings without Pro access is the weekly changes to the rank generated by IMDB's calculations. With Pro access you can see the actual rank, which as I said before is really meaningless. There are services that will charge you to have your name accessed to up your ranking, plus news articles and photo coverage will generate more hits.

168,000 is my changes.... lol. What does that even mean?
and who is ranked #1?
Between Oct. 24th and Nov. 21, you shot up over 400,000 spots. From #672,000 to #261,000. I'm thinking maybe that's when you released that article about the Wollensak, and so there was a bunch of buzz and searches on your name. But, as always with the IMDB rankings, what goes up goes back down. Between May 29 to July 3 you lost 400,000 ranking points -- went from #215,467 down to #602,482. So -- in other words, don't worry about it. It lurches and fluctuates wildly all the time.

As for who's #1? Today, it's Rosie Huntington Whiteley. Who? Exactly. Is she really the #1 biggest star in the world? George Clooney is #2. So how could Rosie Huntington Whiteley be ranked higher than him? Easy -- she's the new face who replaced Megan Fox in Transformers, and Transformers is (today) the #1 ranked movie in theaters. So she's getting a boost from the box office, from all the news stories, and also from all the searches on "who's the new girl?"

Note: Shia LaBoeuf is ranked #3, also from Transformers. Do we really think Shia LaBoeuf is the #3 biggest star in the world? Meh. Is he a bigger box office draw than Johnny Depp? I doubt it -- but Depp is #6, and Shia is #3. And #4 is Emma Watson. Who? Oh, yeah, she's Hermione Granger in Harry Potter. So -- wait -- Hermione is ranked higher than Harry himself? Of course -- because she's been in the news a lot, because she got a haircut. And she quit Brown University. That sends her "hits" and "pings" higher. If Harry landed a girlfriend or came out of the closet or some other TMZ-style announcement, his starmeter would skyrocket.

so... it really doesn't mean a thing.

FYI, I'm 731,364 (without a rocket)!

I'll occasionally notice if I am Red or Green, but don't pay much attention beyond that. It's always green when I have something going on, a film screening, a new video posted to youtube, etc...

I do much better on my rankings when I've gone out on a date with ScarJo or any of the Justins.

What Justin's????????? Justin Beiber??????? Yikes! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dang, I must learn to control Evil Doc. Bad Evil Doc!!!!!
