I allways have worked with a Sony vx2100 but last week I had to shoot with a dvx100b. I am in PAL territory and used squeezed mode in thin line detail
because it's intended for wide screen. Also used F1 scene file setting and I used the default "shutter off" setting. I used these settings because I had less experience with that camera and wanted to play it safe as the recording was important.
I had to film in a buidling were there were some small clear glass windows in the roof, it was a clear sunny day and the this gave a perfecly lit room but the sun created a lot of overexposed areas.
The dvx had a lot of problems keeping detail between normal/overexposed parts, f.i. parts were the sunlight was not directly shining were looking very good in sharpness, contrast and light but the parts in that same image were the sun was shining (and if the surfaces were a bit bright) it was completely washed out with hardly any detail. My Sony would preserve some detail in these overexposed parts but the pana did not.
Even inside I constantly had to work with the ND filter as many times it reached f16 which I was trying to avoid. I constantly had to switch between ND off, 1/8 and 1/64 depending were I stood and because of the sunlight.
Is it normal that the dvx is so sensitive when it comes to dark areas with bright light (f.i. sun) or did i do something wrong?
In general I thought the picture looked better (a bit sharper and nicer color) then my vx2100 so I'm just thinking if it would not have been better to have filmed in the F5 progressive setting?
