hi, Im trying to improve my image ;)
why do I get this motion blur in most shots? this is dvx100b at 24p (29.97fps)
720x480
field dominance is lower even
anamorphic is checked (although I used letter box I don't understand that either - I thought anamorphic was only with squeeze?)
NTSC CCIR 601

You're seeing pulldown. DV tapes can only record 29.97 frames per second, so the DVX100 adds pulldown to stretch your 23.976 frames an extra 20%. You need to remove pulldown at the beginning of your editing process, and then make sure your sequence settings are for 23.976 frames, not 29.97.

If I were you, I'd shoot 99% of everything in squeeze mode, these days.

thanks ProfessorU

.. I got to compressor to remove the pull down using the reverse telecine setting BUT at the very last step where it says "submit" the button is greyed out. Found this guys solution # 3 worked for that... http://youtu.be/_7DpQzWwNSE

however after getting compressor working, I brought the reverse telecine footage back into FCP and found it to look the same.. with the "comb tooth edges" any other ideas for that?

I've attached a screen shot after reverse telecine.. look at the guys arm...

later, here, I recaptured the footage, this time using the FCP preset for 24p with drop down removal...

you can still see the colours bleeding into each other.

I've seen people get much better images with 100b.. I must be missing something.

Bright red is a problem with DV footage. If you apply a chroma blur on the horizontal pixels in post, it helps.
