Image shifting while shooting

I was shooting a documentary the other day and while rolling, stationary on a tripod, I noticed in both the camera monitor and an external, that the image began to shift in a jerky motion from side to side. It happened two or three times during the shoot.

There's a possibility that your OIS was turned on. OIS and tripods don't play nicely together and result in the jerky motion you described. Turn the OIS off when on a tripod.
