Image sensor in GoPro Hero: about $10

Not that surprising. Most of the stuff you buy needs more markup than that to make it from factory to retail. Those brand name sunglasses you paid $150 for? They cost $3 out of the factory.

Plus it needs to be designed, stress tested, and the code must be written for it to function properly. Oh and paying the staff and advertising budgets.

Actually, $47 cost out of $129 MSRP is very reasonable at 37%.

I suspect most camera between $1,000 and $6,000 cost about 25% to manufacture per any given piece. The electronics are better across the board - hah!- but the labor stays about the same.

I bought the Xaomi YI 100$ very happy much better color and no dististortions * like my Hero3+ Black wich I have converted wih a 5.4 mm Ragecam Lens * In the App MiSportCamera_1.3.apk you can enable electronic Distortion, a new feature built in Hero5. 1080p60p & 108050p, Case/lens is "waterproof"? and has a tread on the bottom. A cheap crashcam too for Copters.

That's actually very high cost. Pure parts at 50 bucks and 130 retail price? they're almost not making any profit considering the market and costs of actual production-to-hand steps. That's why they're successful, (and Blackmagic) low profit margin, lots of sales, instead of the other way around (which works too)
