This may be a premature question....
Can anyone give an educated guess about the P2s baseline ASA, ability to handle low light situations, ability to handle highlights, range of f stops, perceived resolution, artifacts, and image quality of recorded material viewed on HD & SD monitors?

How about a compairison of this estimate with known parameters for the DVX 100 and Varicam?

How about an output compairison to DVD, SDI, HD or film?

Hey jameswmulryan,

P2 is a storage medium meant to hold data, and in the case of the HVX, is meant to hold the ones and zeros that comprises the images that the camera captures. As for the HVX's image, No one knows what the quality is going to be like but many pressume that the higher data rate of DVCPro will hold up much better than that of HDV with more color information and will be less likely to have artifacts.

Hope this helps.

thers no such camera as a "P2". P2 is just a memory card that the data gets written to. it fits in both the new HVX200 that isnt out yet and nobody knows what its imagery is like, and it also fits in the SPX800 which shoots exactly like the SDX900 but records to P2 instead of tape. once the HVX200 comes out or someone can get their hads on one well be able to run comparison tests like this though.

In other words, the P2 card itself has no more to do with image quality or attributes than a CD has to do with spelling in a Word document that’s saved on it. The files are the same no matter what you save them on.

As far as your initial question -- I don't think there's anyone who could offer an educated guess at all. There's just no basis of facts for us to start extrapolating upon. DVCPRO-HD can look fantastically better than HDV, but that's about all we know, and we only know that because we can run tests on the codec and see the results.

We should be seeing first footage from the HVX in about a month, and that'll give us a basis to begin comparisons.
