which mode will provide the best SD image in theory?
hd down rezzed to sd
mini dv
dv50
i've heard that the dv50 mode will provide advantages in post and for green screening but the actual picture quality may not be any better than mini dv.
talking SD here. NOT HD.
My money would be on DV50 providing far and away the best imagery in SD. Needs to be tested in actual practice, but it should be way better than DV, and I would bet better than downrezzed HD.
Yes you would think DVCPRO50 would be the best bet; though I was surprised how well the downrezed 640x360 720p-bball-half.mp4 file looked.
It wasn't even 480 and it looks dang good for so little resolution, not to mention recompressed on top of it all. Somehow it still seems to retain that HD snap although obviously, it's not HD at 640x360. This camera appears to shoot some nice stuff and downrez seems to retain quality.
The data rate of that downrezed file is 9.31 mbps.
not sure, but i guess HD downrezed to HD should look very very VERY close to DVCPro50.
It depends on the quality of your downsample algorithm.
I've done some quick tests in Final Cut Pro, and their new scaling algorithm (with the "best" setting) is absolutely stunning. Way way better than the old version.
