Image Flex in Nikon lenses, Jump to PL Mount?

Hello,

Ever since I have gotten my AF100, the nikon lenses i have use on the camera have constantly flexed in the mount during focusing (mainly with the FF). This is more occurring with the longer lenses, 85 1.4 and 105 1.8 and 105 macro. I cannot pin point the problem, but even with the FF off, the slightest amount of pressure from my finger to focus gives flex to the lens and mount and my image sways in frame. It is not how I want a functional camera to be and I am seeking options to get around this.

I thought maybe FF/gear combo could be adding too much torque while focusing, so changing the FF or gears, maybe redampening the lenses to eliminate torque/easier smoother movement, but it all comes back to the slightest amount of pressure on the lens moving the contents in frame. My only option I see fit is to move to a secure PL mount to give me proper focus throws and robust connection.

Has anyone encountered this problem with there setup? Is the PL mount connection on the AF100 strong and secure? Thanks for your input.

voightlander, and I actually have made a support system to hold the mount inplace to the baseplate (just like the PL adapters mounts).

It wll be a combination of the lens internals and the mount.

If the lens internals are worn..you have no fix for it. They were never designed for this purpose. They are lightly constructed and some even use plastic internals.

I had mine cleaned and re lubricated. The are fine but still "compromised" and require fairly careful handling ( focussing etc)

The Nikkor adapter mounts all seem to permit a bit of movement. The Nikkor was not designed as a locking mount as per a PL lens and mount. Take a look at what the mount is using as a locating pin. Its very small and therefore, very imprecise and insecure ( engineering wise)

thanks for the reply shooter. yes i have some lenses that shift like that. though the main issue at hand is more from the actual lens moving and shifting, rather than the elements inside. but what i was thinking is exactly how you put it, they are not secure locking. i was uncertain is anyone else was having this issue.

I have the Voightlander and must have a 'tight' version of it because it locks very solidly on to both the camera and all of my lenses. I do use the Redrock lens support with my 80-200 though but not with my 85 1.4. I know the problem your talking about though, it used to happen with my 5D when used with most adapters on my Nikkors, especially with the FF.

*Shooter, I have a old Ai 24 2.8 that absolutely does what you showed in the video link. Solved it by finding one that was 20 years old instead of 30.
