iMac not recognizing my Firestore FS-100

I am brand new to this site and brand new to this community. I just received in the mail an HVX-200 along with a Firestore FS-100. I am feeling slightly overwhelmed to be honest. I will likely be here bugging you all with questions all the time! Here is my first one: I did some test filming with the camera using the FS-100 and not I have it hooked up to my iMac (2011, newest model) and it it not recognizing it. Nothing is happening on the computer screen or on the FS-100 screen. Any ideas? (I bought the stuff used, so perhaps it needs to be formatted to a Mac?? If so, how would I do that?)

Also, while I am here, what is the highest resolution the FS-100 can record? 720 or 1080?

Thank you so much!

a firestore will record whatever the hvx can send over firewire. which is everything but the "N" formats.
at least if you want both picture AND sound

as far as connecting goes. did you "organize P2" and switch the firestore into device mode?

You simply can not connect the Firestore to your computer and turn it on. You have to mount the Firestore onto your computer for it to recognize it.

Find the manuals for the HVX200 and FS100 and read them.

Your Firestore must be formatted as FAT32. Only format via the unit.

Check to confirm you have the correct port on the Firestore, the one labeled "Computer" and not "DV in". Then after making the connection to the computer, navigate the Firestore menu to HDD mode and select DD Drive.

I did read the manual and as a matter of fact it did say that it could just be plugged in. However after messing around with it I did find a way to make the computer recognize it. Here is the new problem. I transfer the files over to my desktop, but they cannot be played. They are .mov files so I would think they should, but when I try to play them I get the message "The file is not a movie file". Can the files not just be pulled off the FS-100? Do they have to be converted to something else first?

Also, I went to format the FS100, but there was not an option to put it in FAT32. It just said "format" and then done when it was finished.

do you record in DV? you will not be able to record quicktime files in hd, since all codecs except of P2 are just SD...

EDIT: whoops! just found out that since firmware upgrade 3.0.0 there is the option to record quicktime in HD, i'll have to check that!
