Imac i3 = Good enough for FCP ?

I currently have a MBP 2008 model which I use an eSata express card to connect my external HD too. I now have the option to upgrade to a new iMac i3 which only has a firewire 800 connection.

Will this become a problem?

Even though I have a 2.53ghz MBP Core 3 duo I know the imac i3 3.2ghz will be a faster computer.

Thoughts?

I just ran across this, it seems like I can connect firewire 800 out of my imac into this hub and then connect my external eSata drive. Now while I know this is not "True" eSata at least it gives me the option of connectivity......

The processor speed will affect things like render times. What you're losing by going from eSata to FW800 is how much HD video you can move at any given point. You'll have fewer streams of HD with which to work.

The adapter you found won't do you much good, unless your current external drives offer only eSata ports. You'll still be constricted to the data transfer rate of FW800.

Honestly, I'd stay with the MBP.
