I'm too scared to open and use my new dvx100b. Seriously!

I'm a total beginner. I only have still photography(film) experience. I bought the new 21.5inch base model Imac to edit the dvx100b footage. I figure I will start out with imovie to get a feel for it before trying something like final cut express. I am going to try to start it up and shoot something right now. I also bought the firewire cable to connect to my mac. Yes, I will turn the power off of both units(as told on page 54 of the manual. Please wish me good luck. I have to do it sooner or later.:violin:

Before you turn it on...make sure there's no 'click' when you tilt it side to side.

...just kidding....Turn it on and start shooting!

Alright, I finally did it. The quality of the test footage I took was really crappy. I guess I have to adjust some settings. Any tips?

You can find ANYTHING you need to know about the DVX right here. Just search the threads, ask more questions and we are always willing to help out. But I would start with digging here first.

But whatever you do, DO NOT ask about the noise your camera makes when you tilt it. Please. ZAZA will rip on you.:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

I would start in the DVX100 section.

did you down load to imovie? That is a pain anyway

Best tip is to start reading DVXuser. Search around and ask question. You can learn a lot. The DVX100 is really pretty easy to use but it is not a point and shoot camera. It just takes time

yeh it depends on what u mean by "crappy" aslo. Does it look crappy when u play it from tape to the tv? does crappy just mean ur personal skill (like shakey footage)...or does it mean it looks crappy when u import it and are viewing it on the PC. The latter can really mess with footage if its not done properly. I duno about Imovie though or what settings u used to shoot with. However i would suggest...scratch that...i INSIST (:) ) that u get Barry Greens dvx book. Look it up on amazon. its about $70 or less. That will tell u EVERYTHING u need to know about the camera. And u can ask us also.

happy shooting.

Thanks for all of the links, everyone.

I'm new to a DVX also. I landed a summer gig shooting with one for 90 days. I get to do some work with it at the end of the month for a few days, then nothing until mid-May.

I intend on using this forum to learn as much as I can, as well as share my progress and discoveries as I go! I'm very excited to get started, and the links you all posted helped me too.

...really, you should get it:thumbsup:

Happy shooting, capturing, editing, encoding, delivering, shooting, capturing, editing, encoding...........life with the dvx...a game changer

Rewind! My camera is showing me a "warning psd ng" error code, something relating to the image stabilization. I just sent it back for an exchange. I guess I have to be a little more patient. ha

still good choice?

still good choice?

you are not so lucky or simply you must be less anxious approaching a camcorder, that's not a Pandora invader...
I'm thinking about buying a DVX100B, is it still a good choice? May you tell me why did you buy a miniDV SD and not an HD, like a TM300 or similar? I've just posted a thread about this topic, i'm glad if someone like to reply. Thanks

I bought mine second hand not long ago and i was the same. I was intimidated by all the buttons and switches. When I first touched it for the first time I was like woooooooow I have a DVX100B!!!! It was like holding gold. But I was thinking aw man I'll never learn all of the stuff on this camera.

But it's fairly simple to use. Great camera!!!!
