I'm sorry...but THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!!!

Comme on guys, it´s the film industry premium.
Much more complicated parts, with the same small market are much cheaper - only difference is, they are outside of the film industry.

Have a look:This is a rod clamp for a optical table.

1. This double rod clamp is way more sophisticated than the "cheap" Jag35 clamp.
2. It´s black anodized
3. It´s high precision, cause that´s what you need for optical experiments
4. It´s 18 Bucks
5. The company still makes a profit.

Don´t tell me, that the market for optical tables is larger than the film industry plus all the prosumers out there.

So how can that happen? Huh?

On the other hand, there are some promising companies out there, that deliver superb gear at a great value.
Former HandyFilmTools - now Edelkrone does some amazing rigs, http://www.edelkrone.com/

Or some Chinese (don´t laugh) manufacturers.
Just got a Chinese follow focus for 250 bucks, that is a absolute in the same league with Zacuto, Crosziel, Shoot35, Redrock andwhatnot.

I have to Say Im super proud of Kadir, ( owner of Handyfilm tools). He started off making dof adapters, then moved to rigs and many other film tools. He's probably the most innovative that I have seen, when it comes to designing film gear. His company is growing by leaps and bounds. Im proud to say, he's helped sponsor me from the beginning, He's been a friend and a supporter of my endeavors. I will always be grateful for the gear he's sent me over the years. Not to mention, Kadir is a hell of a film maker himself. He does some really beautiful stuff.

I agree that it would be a good deal if it fit 15mm rods, these are for 12 mm rods. So it really wouldnt be that useful to many people.

99 percent of my time is involved with designing new products, building stock of the existing products, answering emails, phone calls etc. I was never a film maker, more of a technical guy, I used to operate camera but I never directed or did anything like that.

For me im in my perfect place, I get to play with cameras all day, I get to design stuff, machine stuff and I get to control it from a business POV, im very happy where I have ended up.

Currently working on a new remote focus which I think will end up as probably the best single channel focus system ever made. Blowing my own trumpet I know, but its pretty damn good ;-)

It has come to my attention that the chinese/indian ripoffs of rigs etc have drasticly gotten more expensive, I paid 150 bucks for a railsystem w. mattebox 2 years ago and now the same retails for 320. The thing is, people are willing to pay, cus a lot of people actually have money to SPEND. It's that simple, really... I mean, i still remember that guy on HV20 forums who built a €3500 rig & never shot with it...

Several stores in Sweden retails direct import items for 200% the price, It is my firm belief that there is some very basic psychology involved here. IT FEELS GOOD TO AFFORD, AND BUY, EXPENSIVE.

I think he was making a point about manufacturing/material/precision costs. A scientifically precise 90 Degree clamp, made from the same material, is more than 50% cheaper.

Nah. There is some mystical aversion to 15mm. There has to be. That's why they chose it, so they wouldn't have to compete with any other manufactured items.
