I'm sorry...but i need to ask.  DVX100 basics

ok, so ive had the dvx100a for about a year now. Ive been shooting live shows in 60i with other cameras. Now i want to make a short film.. so heres the question. I know buying the 16:9 lens would benifit the image...but i cant afford it with our budget. So... wich is the best way to go.. should i use squeeze, or 4:3? at 24P any other advice on settings while in 24p?

second.. i use premere pro to edit.. i was told to just capture using standard 29.9 DV NTSC format.. is that correct? i was told the dvx100a just simulates 24p and converts it to 30i. however if i am wrong i want to get the best possible image.

third. Can i later get dvx100a footage transfered to film with a decent quality in 24p?

thanks guys.. sorry for the noob questions.

Squeeze, 24p - edit in Premiere Pro (hopfully ver 1.5) with one of the Panasonic 24P presets.

If you're thinking about a film transfer, I'd recommend letterbox or 4:3 over squeeze.

7.0? Wasn’t that discontinued and repackaged as Pro 1.0?

Maybe the upgrade to PP 1.5 (which has 24p) is free. Dunno.

No the upgrade is definitely not free (damn you Adobe..)

I think that's right about 7.0 Jim. I don't think anything technical changed between the releases but the name 7.0 was certainly dropped.

Yeah, that was about the time I switched to vegas. NO real 24p support in 1.0 and then they want to charge me for a bunch of bug fixes and 24p when vegas gives it to you for free, plus the mpeg/AC3 encoder. I don't hate adobe, just the Premiere team. I think they are a bunch of overpaid morons that have no idea what the consumer wants, and how to keep customer loyalte.

but isnt dvx100 24p really 29.9 simulated 24p? like ... you cant really view it in 24p or it looks all messed up?

Nope, the DVX has true 24p cabability, but it does a live pulldown to put it onto tape. So what is on tape is 60i. Then in your editing software you can extract the 24p footage from the 60i tape.
