Hey all,

I'm new here as by the #1 on post counts. So, a little bg on me. I'm just getting started out on my own. I was "working" in an college environment mainly. Did a lot as an undergrad, then worked as a producer/shooter/editor/whatever at a production facility while going for grad school. I went to Vegas for a weekend, came back and quit grad school. Got hired to do a doc, so I lived in a village in Japan for 4 months doing all aspects of the "film" by myself. Came back stateside. Took on my first real clients and have been the sole production on their DVDs.

So, here I am at a crossroad in my life/career/blah.

All things considered, I don't really see hi-def as a "need to have" at this point, but it's still pretty. I do mostly docs, but some commercial work. What do you think? the 200 or the 100b ?

check my stuff out and let me know what you think :P

well, some people are looking to make a generous investment in me as they see the potential in me (their words not mine :P). So, budget isn't a factor, they want to throw 20 G's my way. I am however looking to make the $$$ go as far as possible as I'm used to a shoe-string budget. I'd also like to get some nice accessories, a new VTR, and some other goodies.

Personally then, I would go for the HVX, and here is why. The HVX can shoot NTSC DV as well as shooting Hi-Def, so if you feel for right now you just want to shoot in standard def, you can. Later you will want to start shooting Hi-def so this camera will be able to grow with you. Especially doing commercial work, clients are going to want HD, if not now then very soon, and being able to offer that will greatly benefit your business.

I personally went with the 100b.
It's such a great camera for the money.

With the money I saved over the HVX, I'm buying all the goodies for my DVX...matte box, filters, mic, etc., as well as some more lights.

I figure that the camera will have paid for itself by summer.

When I do upgrade to the HVX, the inventory will be abundant, I'll have all the accesories I need, P2 prices will be cheaper...etc. etc.

cool. thanx everyone for your input, i really appreciate it.

I've decided to opt for the hvx since it will allow for more options and growth when everyone and their brother decides they want everything in hi-def. im in the AZ doing a doc on the phoniex open here and i wish i had the hvx now so i could shoot the courses and see it all with those pretty pretty colors :P

cheers
