I'm new here.

That looks about right

Machinist; Boston is Ranked as # 4 Highest Cost to do BUSINESS ! (Top 3 are Los Angeles, Riverside and then San Diego; which is why I am moving my business to NC)

I guess that's why alot of video business is in the outerlying towns outside of Boston. I just got tired of dealing with traffic on the MassPike and I-95 every morning.

Although my morning commute on the F train is starting to wear my patience thin.

I often find Carolina is on my mind too, Hudson.

What was this thread about originally?

Roosevelt Ave. That's why.

I come from Kew Gardens. I'm alseep by Roosevelt Ave if I have a seat. If not it's like the running of the bulls five days a week.

And the love the smell comment was a ref to Apocalypse Now. " I love the smell of napalm in the morning." Trust me, I feel your F train pain. Hey a rhyme!

Remember I said RENT FREE. My wife gets a $2000 a month subsisdey for rent. We lived in Foster City which is 20 miles south of S.F. Our rent was about $1500. I live in Phoenix now and can't breath.
I'll check out the marshall monitor thanks.

And besides, if it doesn't work out I can always move back. Phoenix and Los Angles should connect in a few years at the rate they keep building here.

We provide the VarioZoom in kit form on all of our cameras for production work. 5 new ones went out on the new JVCs I bought from EVS over the last 2 weeks because our camera people love to frame with them. A word of caution, though; don't rely on them for anything but framing. They're not HD and the colors aren't true enough. Use a field monitor. I posted a list of the Sonys we use in the field from the 24" $24k beast we use in studio to the 9" and 14" we use as well. A DSC color chart calibration, setting your tones through the field monitor and DVRack and VariZooms are fantastic, in my opinion, for framing...especially in sports which is what we're doing alot of currently. The Marshall is a great monitor but it's bulky and heavy. It's also a much better choice if you're not going with a field monitor.

Wow just love the way this fourm is layed out. I am an old 42 year having my mid life crisis. I recieved a degree in video production a few years ago and want to start purchasing my own equipment and start working. Married and no kids and have lived in San Fransisco for the past 3 months. Born and raised in Phoenix. Plan to sell and move to S.F soon. Wife is a nurse and can travel RENT FREE.
So I have examined different cameras this past year and have come up with the JVC 100 hdv as my choice. Questions,
1. Should I buy now so I can get the free battery? No hurry for it. Or wait until after NAB in case there is an upgrade on this camera?

2. Any recomendations on a tripod, field monitor, or ?

3. Am I nuts to sell everything and move in order to find happiness in what I would like to accomplish in my life?

Thanks everyone. Love this site.

It seems that you are insecure about your decision and need our validation. Validation not only for the camera, but everything else in your life that you explain to us.

Joe13 can speak for himself but I for one don't look at his comments as some need for validation. He's simply reaching out to a group of people who, by the very nature of our interaction, seem like a family and someone he can talk to... and more importantly talk with.

This Board isn't just about the nuts and bolts of filmmaking. It's more...much more than that. If someone wants nuts and bolts, DVInfo.net is a great place for that and one that I and I know alot of others frequent often. But DVXuser.com has taken on a life of its own separate and apart from the nuts-and-bolts work-a-day world we all live in to one degree or another. And that's a HUGE reason I spend so much time here...checking in from the set early in the morning to see if I can help anyone and if they can help me which, by the way, happens more times that you can know.

I was talking to a couple of people on the set today and we were remarking, and lamenting, those of us old enough to have worked on Cheers and Mash and the like... how we miss those days when the set was a family you hung out with after work. How we missed the greasy spoon (no one can remember the name so if you can, help us out!!! It was one word like Chucks or...) across from Universal's main gate and down a block to the north on Lankersheim where we went for lunch and beer after work. And universally we all likened those days and those places to what Jared has done with DXVUser.com It's like yesterday's Cheers was both portrayed on TV and really was in real life. I don't find a Stage 25 at Paramount anymore or Mash's Century Lot in Malibu. So if Joe13 wants to let his hair down and be a family member of this Board anmd feel comfortable enough to speak plainly and honestly, I for one am happy to welcome him. And I hope to meet him at the party in Las Vegas at NAB.

Heck, we all need validation. Why do you think we so proudly post our Editor's First Cuts on this Board for all the world to see. If they suck, we say so. If they're great, we say so...unafraid to post and to comment because we are all seeking that validation that makes us a more secure, more successful producer...camerperson...editor or just plain old filmmaker. So welcome Joe13. Welcome to DVXUser.com...the land that Jared built... theLand of the Misfit Toys! I'm proud to validate you into this Board and I haven't even seen any of your work. But I hope to if you'll send it to me so I can make sure it gets run at our party in Vegas on one of the three flat screen HD monitors I secured for the shindig a couple of hours ago.

Sporty's...not that wasn't it. Come on, people. The greasy spoon's a landmark in Universal lore. I almost had it.

Jonathan

Angrius. Dude. Bro

Jersey City is Ranked as a least expensive city.

If you made a $100,000 a year living in SF you could take a paycut down to 43,525 to maintain the same standard of living in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Put another way, people aren't flocking to Jersey City.

Crazy angry person.

Hudson! Dude!Bro!

Read this article. I couldn't believe it myself..a buddy of mine lives there and It's expensive as hell. Damn mafia. Now if it was Newark, that would be a different story..what a freakin cesspool..no offence to Newarkians here. Personally, I live in Toronto and it's expensive enough for me.

That crazy monster I use if a televison mascot from Japan named Domo-kun..which I think means "THANK YOU THANK YOU" or some wacked out thing. I like that he looks like a big piece of poo. An angry piece of poo that just came out of some constipated ass. Just like me.:)

Well, you succeeded, my new friend. And I look forward to meeting you in person in Las Vegas to personally say, "Thank you." Rush told me what a huge risk you took and the work that's involved in it keeping it all afloat and headed in the right direction. No one does this to get rich. There's a deeper meaning just like there's a deeper meaning as to why we make films...against all rational and against all odds. And it's like the man said, "If you have to ask why, you'll never understand."

Hey guys thanks for all the input. Jlames Me and my wife we'll be in vegas from sunday to tuesday. Staying at RIO. we should hook up dinner? coffee?
I am right now getting a list of equipment to purchase and jvc100hd is the camera, also the marshall monitor is a must.
Nice pic of phx. I hack my lungs out every morning.
I am very excited to start a new chapter in my life and this is the best fourm on the net.
Outside the Phoenix area, AZ is beautiful. I can't wait to shoot some video using the jvc100hd in places like Sedona or monument valley. As far as phoenix goes I don't think the lens would pick up much thru the BROWN CLOUD.
When I move to S.F., there so much to shoot there too. Big sur carmel, montery bay, Just drive up the coast.

So anyways, My orginal question was should I purchase the JVC NOW and get the free battery or wait until after NAB?
And if I purchase it soon is EVSgive me a great deal? I have dealt with B&H before but not EVS. Don't know much about them.
