I'm going to India next month...few questions regarding accessories.

Hello,

i'm going to India for three weeks next month, i will be bringing my t2i with me and few lenses (popular tamron, and wide tokina), so i'm thinking that first i need more memory with me, i will be shooting some video and doing photos too, so for video i need a fast card...the sd cards that i have now are lexar ones, they are good but they don't say how much mb per second they can push, so the question is, will sandisk 32gb 45mb/s be fast enough for video?

second thing is batteries...now i'm thinking of either buying fake/clone batteries (like 4-5 of them), or buying a grip, but nor do i have experience with fake batteries, nor do i have with grips (i probably will be buying fake/clone grip too).

the third thing would be filters, now i'm not gonna buy anything for tokina, but for tamron (17-50), i think i will need variable ND filter, any good and not so expensive recommendations?

thanks,
Linas

batteries and memory cards are cheap. get the good stuff. the comfort it buys you is WELL worth the price.

From my time in India I think the most important accessory is toilet roll and lots of it. :nads:

Bad idea to use a grip, unless you are not allowed to pause/stop your shooting when a single battery is running of power (but may do that if and only if 2 batteries are used and are both dying).

PS - SanDisk 45mb/s cards are fast enough to recorder ALL-i in 5D3. So they should work fine for your camera, though 64 or 128GB cards seem more convenient than 32 or 16GB cards.

Yup. Keep your kit close to you in the cities.

As for third-party batteries and grips, do your research. There are several out there that are complete wastes of money. I tend to stay brand-loyal when it comes to batteries, getting spares that are from the camera's manufacturer. It's just not worth it to me to risk battery troubles. And I've never been in a situation where I really felt the need for a grip, but then I'm never in an environment that is so fast-paced that battery changes can cost me too much.

For memory, SanDisk Extreme SDHC Class 10 cards are all I use. They're reliable and fast... and prices dropped dramatically in the last year or so. 16GB cards are now under $20 each.

Not directly related to your initial question, but be careful shooting in india, it's not like in the west, a foreigner with a camera on a tripod attracts a lot of attention over there, especially if you're not in a tourist trap area, the police will only be to happy to question you as to why your filming if you don't keep a low profile; i nearly got mysef arrested even after securing filming permissions, so it's handy to keep a few extra rupees in the back pocket for bribes in that kind of situation... also keep all your gear close and secure, as there are a lot shady people kicking about who would like to relive you of all that fancy camera equipment. otherwise india's an amazing place, and probably one of the most photogenic countries on earth, you could send a monkey there with a camera and it'd come back with fantastic footage, also +1 on the toilet paper recommendation, your going to be needing more of that than any memory cards and batteries!
